Two trips to Spirit Halloween this month, and Eva realizes for the first time in her adult life she can fit into everything instead of eyeing the inflatable dinosaur costume.
The scale reads 179, a number that hasn't started with a one and a seven since the 1990s, and finally back in a gym she loves: a strength circuit class full of people “kind of old and trying not to die.”
Kami's daughter turns nine, which means a zoo trip that leaves Kami sore for days, a sleepover that falls apart at 3 a.m., and a Halloween calendar with more moving parts than an airport. Her birthday weekend also brought something truly frightening to her neighborhood, and Kami talks through what it was like to learn about it.
Eva starts seeing a food therapist, and the rule so far: parents control the environment, kids control how much.
Kami's four weeks without estrogen patches during the shortage, which ended in a hallway meltdown over spilled coffee and her nine-year-old patting her back: “It's okay, mommy. You'll get your meds.”

Kami is five days into recovery from a balloon sinuplasty and turbinate reduction, and it has been brutal — she’s too congested to wear her CPAP, she can’t use her mouth guard while mouth-breathing all night, and she’s up every hour drinking water. Before any of that came up, though, she showed off three new waist-length hair extension colors, Foxy, Aurora, and Paprika, from Wildcrafted Beauty.
Eva marched a Stephen King-grade demon clown costume up to the register in a store for kids — and when the manager disagreed that it didn’t belong there, she bought $50 Boden sneakers out of spite for the place. Weeks later, her 6-year-old still won't go to the bathroom alone, because in her mind, the clown lives there now.
Eva hadn't budged from 186 for a year and a half — until she stepped on it this week and saw 180, a number she hasn't seen in ages, ice cream summer in Washington included.
Three weeks after her Halo resurfacing, Eva decides to take the opportunity to have a Junera laser treatment, a new technology that treats the skin from within to tighten the face and neck from the inside.
After an important discussion about the microwave (also known as the micro-wah-vay), we theorize that GLP-1s are basically commoditized now.
