Obedience or Illusion?

FRESH Official Podcast

Show Notes

Every day we're told to "follow your heart." It sounds freeing, fantastic – until your heart leads you into something dangerous. Deep down, even the most independent soul still obeys something: desire, fear, money, approval. The question isn't whether we obey, but who or what we obey.

Just imagine a pilot ignoring the control tower. He believes the instructions are good – he just doesn't follow them. No matter how sincere he feels, the outcome's the same: disaster. Belief without obedience still crashes the plane.

And hey, we want to do that with God all the time. We say, "Lord, I trust You," but we keep flying by instinct – holding onto our grudges, our comfort, our control, our right to do it our way.

Then we wonder why the faith we talk about crashes in a heap. Jesus said:

Luke 6:46 Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' but you don't do what I say?

That wasn't meant as a rebuke – it was an invitation. Real faith listens and follows. Real love says, "Yes, Lord," even when obedience costs. Obedience isn't about earning God's approval. It's the evidence that we already have it. It's how love breathes.

So when God prompts you – to forgive the person who wronged you, to give what feels way too much, to walk away from the thing that's slowly crushing your soul – don't hesitate, don't delay, don't waver.

You don't need to understand the whole plan. You just need to trust the One giving the instruction.

Because the faith that obeys may well tremble, but it'll never crash and burn. And know this: every act of obedience moves you from an empty belief … into a living, breathing faith.

Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' but you don't do what I say?

That's God's Word. Fresh … for you … today.

Fear's a powerful motivator. It keeps you in line, makes you comply, and even drives you to perform. But it never changes your heart. Because while fear may force compliance, only love inspires devotion

When our lives fall apart, hope is usually the first casualty. The dream dies, the light fades, the silence feels final. But in God's story, even the grave isn't the end – it's merely the turning of a page.

When life hurts, our first question is almost always why. Why this sickness, this loss, this setback? But what if the greater question isn't why, but who – who's with me in this, and what might He be doing through it?

Obedience sounds easy until it costs something. It's one thing to say "yes" to God when life feels safe – but another thing entirely when His call leads you straight into surrender.

If you're ever going to be successful at what you do, you need to embrace efficiency – keep moving, stay focused, don't get sidetracked. But love is rarely efficient. It often arrives disguised as an interruption.
