Elaine Dowds: Smells Like Minor Spirit!

Our guest for the third episode of Season 5 of the GAA Minor Moments podcast with Electric Ireland is current Antrim Camogie manager, Elaine Dowds, who offers a first-hand look into her remarkable journey through the sport.

In this episode, Elaine reflects on her illustrious career, from her early Minor years fuelled by a childhood obsession with Camogie, to representing Antrim for over two decades as a player and her successful transition to managing the Safron’s at senior level. She reminisces about how playing with the county Minor team was instrumental in building her confidence as a teenager.

Elaine delves into her commitment, once forgoing a Nirvana concert to play in the Ulster Minor Camogie Final. Elaine passionately discusses the need for female role models, both as players and managers, and reveals what she believes makes a good manager.

Every Tuesday, well known Irish stars will share memories from their early sporting careers and reflect on the defining moments from playing Minor and how that shaped them both on and off the pitch.
