Show Notes

June 2014. A frontline outpost a few kilometers from North Korea. A sergeant with less than three months left in the army finishes his guard shift, and he doesn't hand back his rifle or his grenade. Twenty minutes later, five of his fellow soldiers are dead. Then he runs into the mountains with dozens of live rounds, and three and a half thousand troops go after him. What drove a man so close to going home to turn his gun on his own unit? And why did the army miss every warning sign?

Within four weeks she was dead, and her body was hidden under cement on a hillside in a rural county north of the city. The people who did it weren't strangers in the usual sense. Most of them were teenagers, some about her own age. And the only reason anyone found her was that the same group killed again nine days later.
