In this episode of Early Childhood & the Bible, Ann Livingston is joined by educator Cathy Peters for a conversation about stewardship versus ownership in parenting—and what it means to raise children without trying to control their future while still taking seriously our God-given responsibility to guide them. Together, they discuss: Why parents are called to steward their children rather than "own" their identity, gifts, or future How to recognize and nurture your child's God-given gifts without deciding what their career or calling should be Why children need both freedom and structure What to do when your child constantly wants to quit activities and move on to something new Why teaching commitment, responsibility, perseverance, and grit matters The potential problems with overly child-led or child-centered approaches when structure and intentional teaching are removed Why children cannot simply "figure everything out" on their own How parents can steward what their children are exposed to through technology, media, and culture Why Christian parents are called to be actively involved in shaping their children's faith, values, worldview, and education The goal isn't to control our children or dictate who they will become. It's to recognize that God has entrusted them to us—and that stewardship requires intentional involvement. Your child has been given gifts, abilities, interests, and a unique purpose. Your job isn't to own their destiny. Your job is to faithfully steward the child God has placed in your care. If you're a Christian parent, homeschool parent, or educator wondering how to balance freedom and boundaries, child-led learning and structure, or independence and responsibility, this conversation will give you plenty to think about. What are you teaching your children about work? Is work simply something we do to earn money and pay the bills—or did God create work with a much greater purpose? In this episode of Early Childhood & the Bible, we take a different look at work, money, provision, entrepreneurship, calling, and what it means to build our lives around God's purposes rather than the world's definition of success. Starting with Scripture, we explore what the Bible says about God's provision and His ability to give us the power to create wealth. We also look at the biblical pattern of God's people receiving provision from Him rather than living as though their security ultimately comes from an employer, a paycheck, or the world's system. But this isn't just a conversation about adults and careers. What we teach our children about work begins long before they choose a career. In this episode, we'll explore: What the Bible says about work and provision God's purpose for work from a biblical perspective The difference between working for money and working from God's calling What Scripture says about diligence and laziness Entrepreneurship and business through a biblical lens Why everything we do should ultimately be submitted to the Lord How fear and the desire for financial security can influence our decisions How parents can help children discover their God-given gifts, skills, passions, and creativity Why children need opportunities to develop problem-solving, critical thinking, independence, and creativity How homeschooling and family discipleship can change the way we think about education and preparation for the future We'll also look at Genesis 2:15 and the picture of Adam being placed in the garden to tend and keep it—working, serving, worshiping God, guarding, protecting, and stewarding what God entrusted to him. Most importantly, this episode challenges parents to ask a bigger question: Are we preparing our children simply to fit into the world's system—or are we helping them discover who God created them to be and teaching them to steward those gifts for His glory? Whether your child eventually becomes an employee, entrepreneur, business owner, craftsman, teacher, artist, ministry leader, or something else entirely, our responsibility isn't to decide who they should become. It's to help them recognize and develop the gifts, passions, skills, and calling God has placed within them. If you're a Christian parent, homeschool parent, educator, or entrepreneur who wants to think more biblically about work, wealth, education, calling, and raising children, this conversation will give you plenty to think and pray about. Does your child struggle with anger, emotional outbursts, yelling, disrespect, or shutting down when they feel frustrated? Anger itself isn't necessarily the problem. The question is: What do we teach our children to do with their anger? In this episode of Early Childhood & the Bible, we talk about how to help children understand, communicate, and manage anger in a healthy and God-honoring way. The Bible tells us, "Be angry and do not sin." That means children need to learn an important truth: It's okay to feel angry, but we must learn how to respond to anger without hurting ourselves or others. In this episode, you'll learn: How to help your child understand why they are feeling angry Why anger can sometimes communicate a deeper unmet need The difference between allowing an emotion and allowing inappropriate behavior How to create a safe space for your child to express anger Why shutting down your child's emotions can lead to shame and unhealthy patterns How to teach children to communicate frustration in more appropriate ways What to do after your child has an angry outburst How to correct behavior without condemning your child Why unconditional love is essential when teaching children emotional regulation How parents can model healthy anger and emotional maturity for their children One of the most important lessons we can teach our children is that they don't have to hide their emotions—from us or from God. They can bring their anger, frustration, hurt, and disappointment into a safe relationship where they can be heard, guided, and taught how to respond differently. When your child is angry, the goal isn't simply to stop the behavior. It's to help them take a step toward greater emotional maturity, communication, character, and self-control. As Christian parents, you have the opportunity to teach your children that God is not afraid of their big emotions—and that they can bring every feeling to Him, receive His wisdom, and learn to respond in a way that reflects His character.
