This week on The Tiny Pod is all About Ceasefire. From the Latin word Cessare, meaning to stop, to yield, to give over, a ceasefire is an exhale, a nervous system rest and reset, and it is only when our nervous systems are parasympathetic, at rest, that we are able to see with clarity and a clear head, and negotiate real peace. Ceasefires create space for peace by stopping further harm, pausing active attacks, and giving clarity a moment to settle. It is a step towards armistice and peace, a pause, not permanent resolution but in that pause peace can be found.
As without, so within. When we let the word Ceasefire land on hearts, we feel relief, we soften, we put down our weapons of self-criticism, pressure, perfectionism and allow calm to settle. Ceasefire with ourselves is permission to stop fighting with our self, with others, and with the world. It is in allowing ourselves to be as we are, and others to be as they are, and let life keep lifing that we find peace and stop exhausting ourselves fighting against life as it is.
The practice of peace is to notice when we have picked the weapons back up, and choose again and again to put them down. It is a continual, committed practice that takes active surrender to life as it is, and commitment to no longer fighting reality.
A ceasefire is a conscious interruption of harm, in a system that has become used to conflict, and creates space for something new to emerge. It is not final, but often the first honest step towards lasting peace.
When we regulate our nervous systems we naturally, and consciously move away from anything and anyone that does not bring peace. And each time we choose peace, we choose to put the weapons down, we are really choosing ourselves, choosing each other, choosing love and choosing life. True ceasefire is positive, encouraging, hopeful and an invitation into deeper, lasting peace, joy and love.

This week on The Tiny Pod, in honour of last week's 81st UN General Assembly, is all About United. The word united is past tense, implying unity, unison, union has already been achieved, but unions, and all relationships are active, and continuously in flux. The moment we stop actively pursuing unity, disunity naturally creeps in. United is often used politically as a tool to both imply unity has been achieved, and to silence dissent and discourage inquiry. United in the context of United Nations, United Kingdom and United States is both aspirational and misleading. As we explore what United means in political unions, we also discover what is true in any union, whether marriage, parenting or friendship, States, governments or organisations. Unity requires continuous review, negotiation and compromise. Relationships are alive and active, and although united is not a constant state, it can be touched through commitment and active participation, and can last if continuously pursued. Families can bee united and yet have no sense of unity. Countries can be united against a common cause, while still disagreeing on others, and states can question the validity or strength of a union whilst still staying in that union. United is not unanimous agreement, it is what it always meant, an agreement to join together, to bring different parts into one cohesive whole, and that can only be done in truth. The obvious disunity at the UN this year was arguably the most honest reflection of the state of the United Nations, and it is in honesty that true unity can begin to be found. This week on The Tiny Pod I share an episode from Tiny Pod Patreon, About Shame.
This week on The Tiny Pod Patreon is all About Plagiarism, in honour of Dr Jason Arday. Plagiarism originally meant kidnapper, child stealer, it was used to describe someone who kidnapped children or slaves, or sold free people into slavery. The word evolved to mean literary theft when the Roman poet Martial described Fidentinus as a kidnapper of his words, his brainchildren. There is no original ground zero thought, we are all walking compilations of the experiences, art, literature, films, environment and people that surround us. The opposite of plagiarism is not originality, it is honesty. Plagiarism is copying the exact style and formation of another without attribution, it is in the concealment and dishonesty. We are all part of a collective and when we share freely we build on what has come before to create something new, we see further "standing on the shoulders of giants," as Isaac Newton wrote.
