#238 Elle Halliwell — 48 Hours, Two Life-Changing Discoveries: Cancer and Pregnancy.
Good Humans with Cooper ChapmanShow Notes
In this episode of the Good Humans Podcast, I sit down with writer, speaker and former lifestyle journalist Elle Halliwell to share one of the most powerful health journeys I’ve ever heard.
Elle built a successful career reporting for some of Australia’s biggest publications including Vogue Australia, Marie Claire and The Australian. But in 2016, her life changed forever.
In the space of just 48 hours, Elle was diagnosed with a rare blood cancer and then discovered she was pregnant with her first child.
In this conversation we explore: • Elle’s childhood and early career in radio and journalism • The stress and anxiety she experienced in her 20s while building her career • The moment she discovered she had leukaemia • Finding out she was pregnant just two days after her diagnosis • Navigating cancer treatment while carrying her baby • How she managed her mental health during such an uncertain time • The role organisations like the Leukaemia Foundation play in supporting families facing blood cancer • Living with blood cancer and stepping into motherhood with a completely new perspective on life
Elle’s story is one of resilience, courage and finding purpose through life’s most unexpected challenges.

I loved this one. Alexis has spent over a decade inside marketing, media and PR, so she knows exactly how our attention gets engineered. And she’s honest enough to call herself a tech addict too. Her new book Real: Reconnecting to Yourself in a World of Likes and Lies is three years in the making, and it’s all about how social media messes with who we think we are, and how to take that back. If you’ve ever closed an app feeling worse about yourself, this one’s for you.
This was a fascinating chat. Dr Joy Kong started out as a psychiatrist and addiction doctor before becoming one of the leading voices in stem cell therapy. She’s UCLA-trained, triple board-certified, and the founder of Chara Health in Los Angeles and the American Academy of Integrative Cell Therapy, where she trains doctors around the world. Joy cuts through the hype and tells it straight about what stem cells can and can’t do, and why she thinks we might be the first generation to reverse ageing. If you’re curious about longevity and where medicine is heading, you’ll love this one.
This week I sat down with Chris Mater, and this one is a masterclass in building a career by backing yourself at every turn.
