AEU President Justin Mullaly on the start of VCE exams, cheating allegations
Mick in The Morning with Roo, Titus and RosieSummary
Victoria's Year 12 students face a significant milestone as they begin their VCE exams, with over 50,000 students participating across 580 exam centers. The pressure of these exams, particularly the English exam kicking off the series, is palpable, with educators and parents expressing concern about the stress students experience during this crucial time. Justin Mullally, president of the Australian Education Union's Victorian branch, emphasizes the importance of maintaining composure and encourages students to approach their exams with confidence.
Mullally also addresses the evolving landscape of education, noting that while the core elements of exams remain unchanged, the integration of technology and the potential impact of artificial intelligence on future job prospects are pressing concerns for students today. He reassures students that their exam results are not the sole determinants of their future, highlighting the various pathways available to them beyond traditional academic routes.
The discussion shifts to the nostalgic and sometimes humorous experiences of past exam takers, with anecdotes about cheating methods and exam day jitters. Listeners share their own stories, reflecting on the shared anxiety and unique strategies employed during their exams. The overarching message remains clear: while these exams are significant, they are just one chapter in a much larger story of personal and professional development.
