I Completed 80s MusicShow Notes
We're back with the back half of playlist 31 and stories of rock glory from the best decade in pop. In this episode we introduce arena rock giants Foreigner to the picture with their apocryphal tale of the fan who sees a concert and becomes a rock star in their single Jukebox Hero. We don our best spandex, head and wrist warmers and get Physical with Olivia Newton-John and send the 80 work out revolution into overdrive (who's mum went to a Jazz and Tap class?). We get one of the most under-appreciated singles from the Human League's Dare album in Open Your Heart. Lovers and fans of Dudley More will appreciate our next track, the epically beautiful Arthurs Theme by Christopher Cross. The Cure take up time skipping with Charlotte Sometimes and we end the episode with the Four Tops big comeback with When She Was My Girl. Another shiny shiny episode this week as we continue into early 1983. Ian Astbury discovers a band in his cellar, China Crisis emulate Eno, Haysi Fantayzee dance around the apocalypse, the Alan Parsons Project causes the Mixtaper to have a wobbly bottom lip, Level 42 have Alan Partridge eating the Chinese Way and the Belle Stars leave us with the sign of the times. What an ep! (seriously though, bring your tissues for the Alan Parsons section, it all gets a bit dusty). Men at Work have an iconic 80s moment and we pop and lock our way to the end of the show courtesy of Grandmaster Flash.
Merrrrry retro Christmas and a Happy 1983! And we have some gifts as we finish playlist 52 with some magic tricks and a blue story! Then we're into the celebrations proper as we reflect back on the year that was 1982, hand out some awards and then look forward to all the treats 1983 has in store!
