Trump and Blanche Misuse the Power of the DOJ - AGAIN - to Impact the Midterm Elections!
Justice Matters with Glenn KirschnerShow Notes
Donald Trump, Todd Blanche, and Jeanine Pirro have again misused the power of the Department of Justice to push a story into the public square that they obviously hope will impact the midterm elections. The DOJ has criminally charged two former career FBI special agents with lying to Congress about an investigation into Hunter Biden's laptop. Notably, they did not do what prosecutors normally would do in such circumstances - present the evidence to a grand jury to see if the grand jury agreed that there was enough evidence to indict the FBI agents. Instead, they seemed to have skipped the grand jury process and just filed a complaint against the agents, apparently to rush this information into the public square in the days leading up to the midterm elections. Given that grand juries have, over and over again, REJECTED Pirro's attempts to indict people Trump wanted indicted...might this be why Pirro chose a complaint instead of indictment? Glenn explains the difference between charging someone by complaint rather that presenting the evidence to a grand jury to see if there is enough evidence to indict the person. A judge has ordered Donald Trump to testify, to sit for a sworn deposition in the $10 billion lawsuit he, Trump, filed against the BBC. So here's the question: after he is asked to please state his name for the record, do you think there is a single other question that man will answer truthfully? Also, what are the chances of this suit being dropped? Glenn give his analysis of this new legal development. Two of the most important words to remember in these times of danger for American democracy: courage and accountability. Courage exhibited by we the people CAN defeat an aspiring autocrat. But once defeated in the court of public opinion and at the ballot box, accountability is necessary if the victory is to be parlayed into creating "a more perfect union."
We already know that Donald Trump and his corrupt executive branch officials are going to try to interfere in the upcoming elections. But the good news is, the blue state leadership - attorneys general, secretaries of state, state prosecutors - are ready to defeat Trump's election interference. And there's actually one lesser known reason blue states are well equipped to defeat trump: the states have a bit of a secret weapon at their disposal. Glenn discusses what the secret weapon is and why it will enable the states to kick Trump's butt in court. Trump's Department of Justice officials have been violating court order after court order. Yet thus far, there have been no contempt of court sanctions for any of their willful defiance of court orders. Notably, there is one case in the system that continues to move in the direction of contempt: the case involving the unconstitutional deportation of Venezuelan immigrants to El Salvador, a case being presided over by the Chief Judge of the DC district court James Boasberg. Glenn discusses why federal judges may be reluctant to hold Trump administration officials in contempt of court. Does Donald Trump ever gets tired of losing the lawsuits HE files? Remember the lawsuit he filed against Hillary Clinton for $24 million. That one was dismissed. Remember the suit he filed against the Wall Street Journal for $10 billion? That one was dismissed with prejudice! So Donald Trump has brought another lawsuit, this one against the BBC for its reporting about what he said on January 6. As part of discovery in the case, the BBC said it intends to subpoena Jack Smith to testify in a deposition. Donald Trump's lawyers have filed a court plating saying, in substance, 'whoa, whoa, whoa, wait a minute, there's no need for that.' Glenn reviews the new court filing by Trump's lawyers who seem desperate to try to prevent Jack Smith from testifying in the case.
