#174: Seven Minutes Of Heaven

The Roar Deal

Show Notes

Never doubt the Brisbane bounce back! Yet again, a shocking defeat has been followed by a stunning victory, as the Lions rediscover their ‘on’ mode once more to end Adelaide’s season. More importantly, Saturday night’s win has remarkably put us through to our fifth straight prelim, making it six of the last seven years that Brisbane have made it at least as far as the final four. It’s a remarkable achievement, but it won’t be enough for this Lions group, with the legacy-defining shot at a threepeat now only two wins away. Saturday twilight prelims at the MCG have been a happy hunting ground over the last two seasons. The two clubs who have played the most prelim finals there since 2000 are Geelong and Collingwood. We’ve already taken care of them, and now we get a crack at the third side on the list, as we prepare to play what is remarkably our first ever final against the Hawks since the merger. This week on the show: -Our perspectives on the 5-goal blitz -Chris Fagan’s an emotional management genius -How do we tame the Wizard again? We are here thanks to Kartable - Planning for later or needing now? Streamlined pricing and procurement for all of your trade materials, supporting services & site deliveries. Go Lions!

When Kiddy Coleman went down with a knee injury at half time of 2024’s Opening Round match against Carlton, there was a widely held sentiment from Lions fans that our premiership hopes had vanished too. Everything that’s happened since then is a bit astonishing: Dayne Zorko’s renaissance, Kiddy’s ongoing injury struggles, and the threepeat we’re still struggling to get our heads around. And now, the man who once seemed central to our hopes has left the club. Welcome to the Roar Deal, with the trade period behind us for another year and one of footy’s great sliding doors questions now to live on forever: what might have happened if Kiddy’s knee had never given way? This week, alongside a wrap of the Trade Period: -Event updates on both our QPAC & cinema Grand Final rewatch -The latest on the search to replace Chris Fagan -The AFLW team getting another win at last -The second half of our premiership players breakdown And much more!

As the search for Chris Fagan’s replacement officially begins, his extraordinary legacy at the Lions starts to crystalise. And when there is a mountain of gold just behind you, it’s so hard to turn around and look ahead - and so, we’re not going to do that just yet. Instead, we’ve booked a QPAC theatre for one more night of basking. This week on the show: -All the information about our big farewell for Fages -A trade period update -How close are we getting to knowing the new coach? And much more!

And now, the aftermath arrives. So much joy meets so much sadness, as we’re still digesting the greatest Grand Final win in living memory alongside the bombshell that it was Chris Fagan’s final act as Brisbane Lions coach. With October upon us and the trade period in full swing, we’re all a bit all over the shop right now. Some of us are still in the euphoria of Wharfie Time - others, however, have had the sadness of the Fagan departure take centre stage. And for others still, they’re trying to turn their attention to the next chapter in the story of this extraordinary football club. It’s an emotional buffet for Lions fans at the moment, and everything is on the menu. This week: -Who will be the next coach of the Lions? -Why the individual moments of Grand Final greatness are getting overlooked -The future of Kiddy Coleman And much more! We are here thanks to Kartable - planning for later or needing now? Streamlined pricing and procurement for all of your trade materials, supporting services & site deliveries. Go Lions!

We sit down for an emergency podcast reacting to the news that the Chris Fagan era has come to its end.

With four minutes and eighteen seconds left, as Wharfie Time rang around the MCG, the script seemed written: The threepeat had proven to be just a bridge too far. Fremantle Premiership merch was already on sale, the Auskickers had their Dockers guernseys on ready for the medal presentation, and Freo fans everywhere were hugging and crying as the enormity of the moment they had waited so long for started to hit them. And of course all this was happening. Because it was over. We just don’t see comebacks in Grand Finals - certainly not like that, certainly not that late. In the one hundred and thirty years of the competition’s history, it’s never happened before. This Lions group, though, don’t seem all that bothered by history - at least, not unless they’re the ones making it. And in four minutes of glory at the MCG, our Lions did exactly that. Under the highest possible stress, with stakes that do not come any greater and a clock rapidly ticking down, the 2026 premiership was won. Charlie Cameron started it, Zac Bailey continued it, Logan Morris finished it off, and Will Ashcroft tied it all together, officially launching this group into footy folklore for the rest of time. 2024 made these Lions a great side, 2025 made them brilliant, but the hat trick cements things - this Lions group is unquestionably now one of the greatest teams to ever play the game. This is the rare air of a dynasty. Enjoy our 2026 Premiership special thanks to Kartable!
