Friday 18 September 2026 Morning Prayer for Friday in Ordinary Time
Daily Prayer: Common Worship Morning and Evening PrayerSummary
The transcript features a series of prayers and readings, beginning with a call to worship and a reflection on the themes of trust and deliverance found in Psalm 31. The psalmist expresses deep reliance on God amidst adversity, highlighting feelings of sorrow and isolation while affirming faith in divine protection and mercy.
The first reading from the first book of Kings recounts the story of Jeroboam, who rebels against King Solomon. A prophet, Ahijah, foretells that Jeroboam will lead ten tribes of Israel, indicating a significant shift in the kingdom due to Solomon's disobedience to God. This narrative sets the stage for the eventual division of Israel.
In the second reading from the Acts of the Apostles, Paul arrives in Corinth, where he begins to preach about Jesus as the Messiah. Despite facing opposition, he finds support among the local believers and continues his mission. The account also details a legal challenge Paul faces, which is dismissed by Gallio, illustrating the complexities of early Christian evangelism and the societal tensions of the time.
The session concludes with prayers for guidance, justice, and peace, reflecting a commitment to serve the common good and support those in need.
