Hollywood has once again reached into the toy box, grabbed a beloved childhood franchise, and thrown a massive budget at it. But was Masters of the Universe actually worth the power?
In this spoiler-lite review, Jim heads back to Eternia to discuss the 2026 Masters of the Universe movie starring Nicholas Galitzine as He-Man, Jared Leto as Skeletor, Camila Mendes as Teela, Idris Elba as Man-At-Arms, and Alison Brie as Evil-Lyn.
Jim wasn’t even planning to watch this one—until a Fantasy for the Ages viewer asked what he thought about it. Apparently running a fantasy channel means you should probably watch the giant-budget fantasy movie featuring a muscular guy waving a magic sword around. Who knew?
We’ll cover: ⚔️ Jim’s history with He-Man—including his inexplicable affection for the wonderfully corny 1987 Dolph Lundgren movie ⚔️ A spoiler-lite look at the story ⚔️ Five reasons you might actually enjoy Masters of the Universe ⚔️ The surprisingly committed cast and polished production ⚔️ Jared Leto having WAY too much fun as Skeletor ⚔️ That Dolph Lundgren appearance! ⚔️ Three reasons you might want to skip it ⚔️ And the biggest question of all: Did we really need another He-Man movie?
Have you seen Masters of the Universe? Were you a He-Man fan growing up? And do you think this new version deserves another trip to Eternia—or should He-Man head back into the toy box?

More from Fantasy for the Ages
Some books are brilliant. Some are brutal. And some leave you too exhausted to imagine starting them again.
Can Zach convince his father to read romantasy? He’s making his case with five series he genuinely believes many men will enjoy.
I finally watched The Strangers (2008), and OH BOY. Great movie. Terrible for sleep.
A Pulitzer Prize-winning novel that's brilliantly written... but absolutely MISERABLE to read?! Is it possible to recognize a book as a literary masterpiece while not particularly enjoying the experience? That's exactly the dilemma Jim faces in this spoiler-lite review of ANGEL DOWN, the 2025 historical fantasy/horror novel by Daniel Kraus!
How did I miss THIS movie for more than 15 years?!
