Simon Crafar on Retirement, A Crash That Changed His Life & The Journey to The MotoGP Stewards' Chair

In this candid episode of the Crash MotoGP Podcast, former Grand Prix winner Simon Crafar opens up about the turbulent journey following his professional racing career.

From battling depression and losing his identity after stepping off the bike, to facing a terrifying dirt bike accident that left him unable to walk for 11 months, Simon shares how hitting rock bottom reframed his priorities toward family and personal growth.

He breaks down how rebuilding his life through coaching eventually led him back to the paddock—first as a live pit-lane reporter honing his communication skills, and ultimately as the Chairman of the FIM MotoGP Stewards Panel.

Simon offers an exclusive, behind-the-scenes look at how modern race direction operates, managing 150+ camera feeds, navigating the fine line between rider error and tech failures, and the art of maintaining fairness and safety in one of the world's most intense sports.
