110. A Few Small Beers

Brother Sister The Podcast

Show Notes

Brother once again decided to get a haircut while he was on the road…and as always it didn't go great. This sets off talking about the greatest hairdresser of all time, Rosa, who Sister also goes to because when she moved to Toronto Jon insisted on it. Jon gets his hair cut by a young mortician, who maybe needs some more experience dealing with people who are alive. Allison reminds Jon this is the second time he's decided to get an impromptu haircut on the road that didn't go well. Allison admits where she is the worst; but then reveals she watched One Battle After Another since the last episode so they could discuss it. Jon cracks his breakfast beer; he's out of the number one choice (Hazy Little Thing IPA by Sierra Nevada) so it's an Icy Bay IPA. *Legal Reminder* None of these breweries know we exist, and are in no way affiliated with us, no matter what Jon says. Jon has a big event coming up, hence the haircut, and he has purchased a new suit. His partner Christina has been named one of AWARE's Women of Distinction in 2026 for her advocacy work, in particular her work surrounding domestic violence, and since Jon nominated her…he has to introduce her! The Sibs get sidetracked into telling stories about celebrities they have interviewed who were weird about it.

SISTER IS STEAMED! She had an incident immediately before recording, and as usual Brother is concerned about her level of aggression. Jon has an update about the whole sit or stand situation, and we get down to messages. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM AUSSIE JERRY! He's got a movie in the works and everything is set except the plot. The Sibs start brainstorming how to save the world. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM SNIPES! Our team - the Texas Longhorns - has a game coming up, but first Ryan has to run around shooting things. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM ANDREA! She's also talking The Team, but then she's getting real about Jon's standing v. sitting situation. Her vulnerability allows The Sibs to follow suit. Allison explains why Jon is such a good guy, and an amazing parent, and Jon reveals some major flaws as well as some inspirations. The Sibs end by discussing how great their dad's map of the grocery store was.

Brother starts the show with the crack of a wobbly pop, and immediately gets a phone call that changes the trajectory of the show. Should he talk about it? Sister says YES! Allison gives a quick update about where she's at with Correspondent Snipes' assignment, and Jon is reminded of all the times in High School his NCAA merch was stolen. To give Jon more time to decide if he wants to talk about the phone call, they go to the messages. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM KEYSER SASQUATCH! He has a bone to pick about a couple of things; and he answers a question The Sibs had about his last message. Then The Sibs have to relitigate the whole centaurs vs Sasquatch thing. Jon is having to be a grown up on behalf of his daughter, and it's stressing him out. And apparently it won't help if Allison flies up there and sets something on fire. Jon is meeting with Principals about principles, defending his daughter's constitutional rights, and Allison is one proud Auntie. Then Tang leads to a discussion about poop in space, because these two aren't well.

Brother has just arrived home from Alberta, full of referendum talk. He has a test for Sister, and then drives her into madness. A political argument erupts…but the kind only The Sibs can have. Reckless comments, a well known Canadian figure accused of being bad at Scrabble, a few factual errors, and ultimately the question: is it possible to just eat dinner with Tucker Carlson? Attempts at subject changes are futile, but mercifully the arrival of a child saves us all.

Brother is sick, his kids are sick, and a late night hospital run caused havoc - including a slapstick moment involving vomit. Sister is sympathetic. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM NOAH! The Sibs are getting fact checked by a 10 year old, to no one's surprise. Allison is also fact checking herself, as she revisited her interview with an astronaut, and does a stunning dramatic reading of the transcript. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM DR. STAN! The pod's own Carmen Sandiego is in Nigeria, where he worked on his PhD years ago, so he's thinking about homecomings. Jon talks about going back to his alma mater, and Allison talks about Scotland: make sure you bring a sweater - even in summer. Then The Sibs wonder about the logistics of Dr. Stan's life while he's travelling the world: what is the laundry situation? Is there a home base? Does he wife travel with him or is he galavanting all over without her? Jon accuses Allison of investigating the listeners. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM RYAN! He has some thoughts on Jon's most recent visit to Stop Podcasting Yourself; a suggestion for Allison's winter blues; and an invitation to go sniping. The Sibs talk American college teams and towns: years ago Allison went to Syracuse, New York, to see a football game, while Jon went to Athens, Georgia and couldn't find a beer on Sunday, or a place to poop. Then they go full conspiracy, and believe they have discovered Ryan's (Codename: Snipes) true identity. BROTHER ON TOUR! Jon has lots of shows coming up in Canada, so if you want to see him tell jokes, follow him on instagram for the most up to date listings: https://instagram.com/tvsjondore

Brother loves The Beatles and he'll duct tape you to a chair if you don't! Sister has thoughts on the Fab Four but isn't allowed to express them. Eggs: do they go in the fridge? What happens when you are forced to eat eggs out of politeness? WE GOT A MESSAGE FROM KEYSER SöZE! He's sharing more about his mouth fart, and The Sibs squabble about poop again. Then Allison reveals her secret conspiracy theory about Canada's most beloved astronaut. WE HAVE A MESSAGE FROM ANDREA! She has a theory about Keyser's Sasquatch, and it's possible she and Jon have a telepathic connection. Editor's note: I finally realized Andrea meant Usual Suspects. We might not be smart but we get there in the end. The Sibs squabble about mythical creatures, and Jon looks up quotes on neutrality. They end with some quick family talk and a mini quiz.
