Young Stock Podcast - the challenges of coming home to farm after living abroad
Irish Farmers Journal podcastsShow Notes
Growing up on a suckler farm in outside Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan, Niall Brennan was lightly involved in the farm, but had other strong interests including business, sport and travelling. After pursing a teaching career abroad for a number of years, Niall came home to the farm when his father was unwell. He said that as farming not something that came naturally to him, he found this to be a big challenge. On the podcast, he spoke about his time living abroad, leaving teaching to start his own business, completing the Green Cert and the importance of the succession conversation. His experience of taking over the farm inspired his AI succession tool FURROW, which was one of the three finalists in the Innovation Arena at the Ploughing Championships this year. It serves as a living record of the family farm and operates on WhatsApp, and offers advice on management and paperwork and has the option to link it up with an advisor. FURROW has opened its early adopter programme to a small number of farmers and advisor practices. Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.
