More from The Cine-Files
On this new episode of The Cine-Files One Takes, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha and special guest Scott Mantz dive in to discuss Help!, the 1965 British musical comedy-adventure film from director Richard Lester. It stars all four Beatles (John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr) along with Leo McKern, Eleanor Bron, Victor Spinetti, John Bluthal, Roy Kinnear and Patrick Cargill. The film sees the three other Beatles struggle to protect Ringo Starr from a sinister eastern cult and a pair of mad scientists, all of whom are obsessed with obtaining a sacrificial ring sent to him by a fan. Though not as well regarded as 1964’s A Hard Day’s Night because of its silliness and wacky comedy, it does feature some damn good Beatles songs and was a precursor for a lot of the comedy we would later see from Monty Python and the Batman series with Adam West and Burt Ward. John, Steve and Scott look back on the film and discuss their feelings on it all these years later, when they saw it as kids, and what charm (or lack thereof) the film still has for them.
On this episode of The Cine-Files, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha finish off their trip back to 1988 in their celebration of the Spooky Season with Part 2 of their breakdown of BEETLEJUICE from director Tim Burton and starring Michael Keaton, Winona Ryder, Catherine O'Hara, Geena Davis, Jeffrey Jones and Alec Baldwin. The plot revolves around Adam and Barbara Maitland (Baldwin and Davis), a recently deceased couple. As ghosts, they are not allowed to leave their house. They contact Betelgeuse (Keaton), a sleazy "bio-exorcist", to scare the house's new inhabitants away. The film prominently features music from Harry Belafonte's albums Calypso and Jump Up Calypso as well. A Halloween classic film that raised the profile of Michael Keaton one year before he played 'Batman', introduced Winona Ryder to the general public and made Tim Burton a household name. Steve and John go thru the back half of the movie scene by scene and break down why this horror lite comedy still holds up all these years later!

On this new episode of The Cine-Files One Takes, hosts Steve Morris and John Rocha dive in to discuss 1974's DEATH WISH. Directed by Michael Winner, the film is loosely based on the 1972 novel of the same title by Brian Garfield and it stars Charles Bronson as Paul Kersey, alongside Hope Lange, Vincent Gardenia, William Redfield, Kathleen Tolan, Christopher Guest and Jeff Goldblum in his film debut. In the film, Paul Kersey (Bronson), an architect leading a peaceful life, resorts to vigilantism after his wife Joanna is murdered and daughter Carol Kersey Toby is raped during a home invasion. Steve and John discuss the movie, how it plays in 2026 and the criticism it has gotten for its apparent support of vigilantism and advocating unlimited punishment of criminals.
