2026 NRL Vegas Review: Dragons Robbed?, Perfect Ponga, Galvin's Team & Same Old Cowboys?
The Cast PatrolShow Notes
The 2026 NRL season is officially underway after a chaotic opening weekend in Las Vegas. We break down the Knights’ win over the Cowboys and ask the big question, was it the same old North Queensland with flashes of brilliance but not enough consistency, or are Newcastle genuine contenders behind a near-perfect Kalyn Ponga performance?
Then we dive into the Bulldogs vs Dragons thriller. Were the Dragons robbed in the dying moments? Was it a strip or a loose carry? We unpack the controversial call, Galvin’s impact and what both sides showed in Round 1.

The Everest and Caulfield Cup are here and the Spring Carnival is officially on. Ka Ying Rising heads to Randwick as the $1.40 favourite chasing back to back Everest wins, with Tempted, Jimmysstar and Ninja lining up to take him on. Then we tackle a wide-open Caulfield Cup featuring Cosmic Crusader, last year's winner Half Yours and two UK raiders in Wine Dark Sea and Enfjaar.
Zac Purton joins us ahead of The Everest this Saturday. The nine-time Hong Kong champion jockey is back in Sydney with Ka Ying Rising, the favourite chasing back to back Everest wins. He talks us through how the champion sprinter is travelling compared to last year, the barrier draw and how he expects the race to be run, and the key rivals in the field. Zac also tells us what makes Ka Ying Rising so special, his plans for the spring carnival and the Hong Kong horses to follow this season.
The 2026 Rugby League World Cup is here and we preview all 10 nations. We go through every team's chances, how the pools and finals work, and our picks for the winner, runner-up, smokey and top tryscorers.
Grand Final week and this is the one we've waited all year for. The Roosters are $1.44 favourites against a Knights side that went from wooden spooners to the decider, chasing a first title in 25 years. If Newcastle get up, they become the biggest outsider to win a premiership in the NRL era.
Two games from the grand final, and it's do-or-die from here. Sam Walker is back for the Roosters just 24 days after syndesmosis surgery. The Dolphins have won eight straight since that 66-0 hiding to Sharks. The Knights are chasing their first prelim win in 25 years against a Panthers side that has won 15 of their last 16 finals.
