Episode 010 - AFI - All Hallows E.P. & Frank Black - Teenager of the Year Is AFI a halloween band? Davey Havok thinks so and he’s the frontman so who are we to argue. It’s probably because of the halloween themed 7” they put out when they were at the peak of their powers. Or all the goth stuff they kept doing for 5 more years. We also dig into The Pixies former frontman's second solo effort Teenager of the Year. Frank Black is a prolific and eclectic songwriter on this album. 22 songs on this one, and he had popped out a solo record a year before this and another record shortly after. Busy fella. Is this output better than The Pixies? Listen and find out. Email us @ [email protected] We want to hear your complaints, compliments, or corrections.
More from Death and Slammy's Record Room
This week we dive into the best live record ever recorded in a prison. So far. Johnny Cash’s career resurgance comes after he plays for inmates at Folsom Prison. The Man in Black was special and this concert demonstrates exactly that. In the second half we talk about a sea change for Propagandhi. They add a second guitar to the mix. They’re not quite the prog-metal band they’re going to become and definitely not the bubble gum skate punk band they started out as. Is this the pinnacle of the most important punk back since The Clash? Listen and find out. Email us @ [email protected] We want to hear your complaints, compliments, or corrections.
We aren’t talking about the 1977 Charles Bronson film, or albino bison. We’re talking about the modern day outlaw country artist! The White Buffalo had a real moment getting a bunch of songs on TV shows, even one from this record we’re talking about, but y’know, they did. And we talk about Hardcore legends Snapcase’s 3rd album Designs for Automotion. A mild change of pace for Snapcase, but damn does it go hard! Is it Automation or Automotion? Listen and find out. Episode 019 - Death By Stereo - If looks could kill, I’d watch you die & Amy Winehouse - Back to Black
Episode 018 - Alkaline Trio - Agony and Irony & The Strokes - First Impressions of Earth Here the pod is again and it sucks like the first time. This week we talk about the Alkaline Trio making the jump to a major label. Did they sell out or just make a banger record? In the second half we talk about lo-fi rock revival hero’s The Strokes third album First Impressions of Earth. This band is always mentioned as saving rock n roll. Did they? Listen and find out. Episode 017 - Lily Allen - Alright, Still & Militarie Gun - God Save The Gun Curveball. Nobody probably heard the tag where I switched out Amy Winehouse for Militarie Gun but we wanted to spread out the ladies. In the first half we dive into Lily Allen’s debut album “Alright, Still”. One of us had been sleeping on this record for 20 years. In the back half we talk about one of the best new bands going right now Militarie Gun!! God Save the Gun is their latest record and at least one of us thinks it rules. Listen and find out. Email us @ [email protected] We want to hear your complaints, compliments, or corrections.
