...here, there and everywhere across the soulful, deep and broken spectrum for this morning's "Risin' " session, but the end result isn't shabby at all - play, listen, enjoy!!
Another recording from a gig I played in Sydney. It was a new event for Night Safari on the rooftop at The Sheaf in Double Bay. Myself, Steve Mack and Tolga Diga were the DJs playing from 6pm to 1am. It had been a beautiful warm day and it stayed above 26 degrees for the whole event. Tolga opened up and got us underway. The mix starts with Tolga's last couple of tracks of his first set. Steve began his first set around the nine minute mark. My first set begins around the 30 minute mark with Detroit Swindle's Monkey Wrench. My first set was a pretty chilled affair on the soulful deep side. I mixed it up with tunes from the last 20+ years. Steve's second set starts around 1hr 35m. Towards the end of his set Steve played a few of his own productions, remixes of tracks you may recognise. He raised the tempo and intensity as he handed over for my final set which starts around 2hr 42m. Check out Steve's tracks on Soundcloud (https://on.soundcloud.com/4hO2bPZLi5Sfboj6av). I opened my second set with a classic from 94 that I'd heard Ellis Mia play in one of his reels the morning before (https://www.facebook.com/reel/1575656207638393). Memories came flooding back and I went hunting for it. Another DJ, Cameron in a Sydney DJ WhatsApp group I created had it on vinyl and ripped me a copy the afternoon of the gig. I couldn't wait to play it. If you haven't already I would recommend creating a chat group for DJs in your city to support each other. My second set is straight up house from the last 35 years, so much fun to play. Most of it was lost on the younger people in the crowd, but they gotta start somewhere! This recording ends towards the end of the set, you'll need to wait for pt2 to hear the rest along with Tolga's final set that took us through to close. We will be doing this gig on a monthly basis so look out for future recordings. For now sit back and enjoy our summer rooftop session.
