In this episode of The Jim Fortin Podcast, Jim explores the limitations people experience, focusing on the belief that life must be constantly managed, monitored, and controlled to keep it from falling apart. He explains that control is rarely the answer, and that forcing it only brings the kind of exhaustion most people are trying to escape.
Jim describes the idea of the "invisible contract,” and how it controls most entrepreneurs and professionals. He draws on his own experience, running a company with a full staff, to break down how constant control leads to catastrophic collapse. Instead, he offers listeners a different approach, dismantling the illusion piece by piece. He asks listeners what they actually control and reveals that the universe and every living thing in it has always existed without their permission.
If pedaling the bike of life has left you worn out, this episode offers a way off the bike entirely.
What You'll Discover in This Episode:
(03:29) The invisible contract — Jim names the unconscious agreement most high achievers live by. It explains that everything will fall apart if they stop managing everything.
(11:42) The hustle culture trap — Jim explains why the belief that success requires constant struggle is backwards and how it violates the “be, do, have” model.
(12:44) The cause of exhaustion — Jim explains why the effort to control life is the root of the very exhaustion people are trying to escape.
(16:19) What you actually control — Jim walks listeners through the realization that they control neither the economy, the weather, their bodily processes, nor even their own thoughts.
(22:31) The failure of mind management — Jim reveals how trying to fix "bad weather" in life validates the illusion of things being broken, and why spirituality is just ego in disguise.
(26:08) The unmanaged life experiment — Jim offers listeners a 24-hour assignment and urges them to adopt the phrase, "I am not the manager of this moment."

Transformational Takeaway
Exhaustion doesn't come from life being heavy. The real cause is the constant, low-grade effort to govern a life that was never yours to direct. Set down the role of middle manager for a day and see what happens. Use the day to observe your thoughts instead of reframing them. Observe the sensation instead of solving it, and let the universe do what it has always done. You are not the manager of this moment. Just be.

Are You A Turkey, Otter, Badger, Skunk, or Something Else? In all my time doing the podcast I’m surprised that I’ve never talked in depth about “Animal Medicine.” So, here you go. I was introduced to “Animal Medicine” two decades ago and I have consistently used it over the years for healing and guidance. Many of the students in my transformational program initially had not heard of it and when they start using it they become surprised at the true guidance it can help us within life.
Most people believe they are the sole architects of their decisions. But in truth, many factors influence our choices. Whether it’s career-related or a new relationship, outside elements have a tendency to sway our thinking. In this episode, Jim breaks down a belief he calls the brainwashed script. He explains that most people follow pre-programmed prompts without even realizing it. Even when a decision feels spontaneous, he says it can be traced to early childhood moments. Using an early ‘90s children’s Tylenol commercial as an example, he explains that we are often persuaded to do something based on an idea planted in the subconscious mind. In these situations, analytical thinking goes out the window, and a decision is made solely based upon the seed planted.
Yes, you read the headline correctly. Fear is the cure for fear. Why? Because you’ll not go through fear until you go through your fear, hence, fear is the cure for itself. I could spend hours writing fancy copy explaining this episode but it’s as simple as this: Go through your fear or you’ll never go through your fear and when you go through your fear your higher essence and Spirit will be free to soar.
In this episode, Jim tackles the misconception that learning more is the key to transforming life. Yes, knowledge is powerful. But context is everything. Jim uses common vices, like smoking and dieting, to show that knowing something is wrong isn’t enough to make you change. He also explains why piling on more information only confuses you, and uses his experiences as an example.
This episode was inspired by a current student of mine. Essentially, he wrote me a note and was sharing how he’s feeling hopeless about the state of the world, the future of humanity, and the planet. I can definitely understand his fears; however, from my perspective, I’m not hopeless at all. Actually, I’m quite optimistic about the future.
