All Things College Football with Lucy Rohden, Zora Stephenson & Gojo + WNBA Finals - EP 78
Golic & SmettyShow Notes
We’ve got a guest packed show as Golic is out traveling this week after calling Monday Night Football. First up is The Dan LeBatard Show’s very own Lucy Rohden! Smetty asks Rohden about attending the Red River Rivalry game. The Longhorns lost to the Sooners and Lucy lost to the fried fair foods. Fried Butter. Fried Fireball. Corndogs for breakfast. Oklahoma’s defense pleasantly surprised Rohden, but Texas’ repeated errors did not. According to her, Texas fans should be mad that they didn’t burn more time on the clock and the early turnovers that ultimately led to their 34-30 loss. Who is going to screw up the most in the Big-12? Is there truly competition in the conference? Jess is confused about Iowa State’s uniforms (Lucy explains and it’s not what you think). Lucy recently moved to Miami and is now a stone-cold hater. The two discuss the Miami v Georgia Tech game with the surprising end that has everyone talking. They talk USC and Iowa Women’s Basketball before Jess is joined by NBC Sports Notre Dame Football Sideline Reporter, Zora Stephenson. Stephenson will be reporting from the sidelines this weekend for the USC game, and she discusses why Fighting Irish fans should be a bit more optimistic. Zora gives the history of her “Chuck Cam”, how she preps for sideline reporting and, as the former sideline reporter for the Milwaukee Bucks, she gives her feelings on the Damian Lillard trade. They round out their discussion talking about the WNBA Finals and breakout star (and former ND grad) Jackie Young. Gojo joins Smetty to talk Notre Dame football. Does their offensive line suck? What went wrong in the Duke game? Who is the best five that need to be on the field? Can they beat USC this weekend? They’re holding on to hope. Join us next week!

More from Golic & Smetty
SPOILER ALERT: All good things must come to an end (cliché I know). Golic & Smetty are coming to you from Radio Row in Las Vegas for Super Week to bring you this week’s final episode. Okay, not just this week’s final episode, but the show’s final episode. It wouldn’t be a grand finale if we didn’t include our dear friend of the pod, Stugotz. Jess and Mike share their favorite moments from the show and discuss the good and bad of Super Bowl media week. Stugotz shares what makes the celebration of football special before Golic asks him how he attempts to make interviews different when the same person has been on 50 other sets that day. Pro tip: Don’t talk about football. The conversation prompts stories of awkward interviews, Stu makes his pick for the Super Bowl winner and the trio discusses iconic big game QBs. Mike and Jess talk about the ever-changing coaching cycle, including one major question: is Bill Belichick done? They hypothesize where he could end up if it’s not on the sidelines before moving on to the college coach migration and the major changes to the Pro Bowl. They end today with the Lewis Hamilton team change and updates on F1. Mike and Jess say their good-byes before riding off into the sunset. Thank you to everyone who supported our show. And don't worry...you can still catch us on GoJo and Golic and The Dan Le Batard Show! So really, it's not goodbye, it's see ya later. Follow Mike and Jess on Twitter! Mike and Jess reflect on the NFL Conference Championship Sunday, with a focus on it being Jess's personal Super Bowl day experience. She shares details about the food spread at her party, featuring an impressive seafood boil and a surprise guest appearance from a co-worker on The Dan Le Batard Show. They dive into the dynamics of hosting big football parties, discussing the pros and cons. Mike and Jess bring up questionable plays, dominant defenses, and the eternal debate on how much blame should be placed on quarterbacks. Smetty raises questions about Lamar Jackson's performance, referee calls, and introduces an intriguing conspiracy theory, prompting Mike to reveal his decision to decline discussing it on a political show. The duo also dissects the Lions vs. 49ers game, exploring where things went wrong for Detroit. Mike passionately shares his thoughts on sports analytics, and they discuss the 49ers' underdog status. They’re then joined by Notre Dame women's basketball player Maddy Westbeld, offering insights on her team’s recent upset against UConn. The trio talks about topics ranging from the perfect cup of coffee to long-standing rivalries and the growing popularity of women's sports. As a note, the podcast has a schedule change for next week. Catch us Wednesday 2/7 at 11am on DraftKings Network. Next stop…VEGAS!
Golic and Smetty are joined by Charles McDonald, NFL Writer for Yahoo! Sports, and host of The Exempt List podcast. McDonald shares his reaction to being in Baltimore over the weekend, witnessing the Ravens eliminate the Texans from the race to Las Vegas. He praises Lamar Jackson, considering him a step ahead of others on the field and a strong contender for winning the Super Bowl. The discussion revolves around the Ravens' offensive adjustments, foreshadowing their upcoming game against the Kansas City Chiefs, and the impact of weather conditions on gameplay. They analyze the Bills' downfall and speculate on the legacy of matchups between Josh Allen, Patrick Mahomes, and Lamar Jackson. The conversation delves into coaching changes, particularly the drama in the Falcons' front office regarding the head coaching job, Bill Belichick, and Jim Harbaugh. The duo revisits the Packers and 49ers game, highlight the dominant performance of the Detroit Lions, and preview their thoughts on the AFC and NFC Championship games, concluding with their game predictions. The episode wraps up with a discussion on the historic Monday night in the NBA and thoughts on the Caitlin Clark court collision.
Mike starts today off by sharing a travel horror story from his weekend trip after the Cowboys v Packers game. Golic recounts his experience calling the game and shares his halftime thoughts. The duo discusses the lackluster wild card weekend, with the Lions game being the only stand out. The conversation shifts to NFL coaches, speculating on potential job losses after this weekend's games. They touch on the oddity of Bill Belichick's interview with the Atlanta Falcons and the awkwardness that will follow if he doesn’t get the job. Mike and Jess explore the college coaching carousel before considering scenarios if Harbaugh leaves Michigan for the Chargers. The NFL Divisional Round is previewed with winner predictions and match-up analysis. Mike discusses the protection of quarterbacks and its perceived excess, which he reasons why he’s not a fan. Today ends with reflections on recent coach retirements, firings, and hirings, noting potential negative effects, and contemplating the upcoming 12-team college football playoff.
Disclaimer: Today’s episode is heavy on the College Football National Championship and NFL Playoffs. Viewers and listeners advise.
