#236 Josh Levey — One month. 7,000 Waves. $100,000 Raised. One Big Purpose.

Good Humans with Cooper Chapman

Show Notes

In this episode I’m joined by Newcastle surfer Josh Levey, who set himself a challenge that sounds almost impossible… surf 7,000 waves in one month. But this wasn’t about records or attention.

It was about purpose.

Josh took on the challenge to raise money and awareness for Soul Hub, a local homelessness charity supporting people doing it tough in his community. By the end of the month he’d raised over $100,000 and inspired thousands of people along the way.

We talk about his upbringing and relationship with the ocean, the moment he realised he wanted to use surfing for something bigger than himself, and how a simple idea turned into a movement.

Josh also opens up about the reality behind the highlight reel. The exhaustion, injuries, mental battles, early mornings, cold water, and the discipline it took to keep showing up every single day. What stood out most was how purpose can carry you further than motivation ever will.

We finish by chatting about what the experience taught him about gratitude, perspective and community, and where he wants to take this impact next.

This is a conversation about using what you love to help others, pushing your limits for a meaningful reason, and how one person’s commitment can ripple through an entire community.

In this episode we cover: • Why Josh decided to surf 7,000 waves in 30 days • The link between purpose and mental resilience • The toughest physical and mental moments of the challenge • What he learned about homelessness through Soul Hub • The power of community support and accountability • What comes next after achieving something this big

If you’ve ever wondered how small daily actions can turn into real impact, you’ll love this one.

I loved this one. Alexis has spent over a decade inside marketing, media and PR, so she knows exactly how our attention gets engineered. And she’s honest enough to call herself a tech addict too. Her new book Real: Reconnecting to Yourself in a World of Likes and Lies is three years in the making, and it’s all about how social media messes with who we think we are, and how to take that back. If you’ve ever closed an app feeling worse about yourself, this one’s for you.

This was a fascinating chat. Dr Joy Kong started out as a psychiatrist and addiction doctor before becoming one of the leading voices in stem cell therapy. She’s UCLA-trained, triple board-certified, and the founder of Chara Health in Los Angeles and the American Academy of Integrative Cell Therapy, where she trains doctors around the world. Joy cuts through the hype and tells it straight about what stem cells can and can’t do, and why she thinks we might be the first generation to reverse ageing. If you’re curious about longevity and where medicine is heading, you’ll love this one.

This week I sat down with Chris Mater, and this one is a masterclass in building a career by backing yourself at every turn.
