Lucy Staniforth: 18 Years in the Game

From training on pitches with knee-high grass to becoming one of the most respected voices in the game, Lucy Staniforth reflects on a career shaped by resilience, sacrifice and a deep love for football.

In this episode, Kate Tracey and Alan McInally sit down with the Aston Villa Women midfielder for a thoughtful conversation about the experiences, people and moments that have defined her journey through the game.

Lucy discusses growing up in a footballing family, supporting Newcastle United, and how the loss of her brother at a young age became a driving force in her career. She also reflects on growing up alongside Lucy Bronze, from living on the same estate as children to forging remarkably similar paths in football.

The conversation covers overcoming two ACL injuries, evolving into a deeper midfield role at Aston Villa, embracing her role as one of the senior figures in the dressing room, and why she still cherishes the feeling of matchdays after nearly two decades in the sport.
