Show Notes

The Adventures of Philip Marlowe presents “The Vital Statistic,” episode 75, originally broadcast on CBS on March 14, 1950. Gerald Mohr stars as Raymond Chandler’s hard-boiled Los Angeles detective in this original radio script by Robert Mitchell and Eugene Levitt, produced and directed by Norman Macdonnell.

A woman who suddenly climbs into Marlowe’s car at a Los Angeles intersection claims she is being followed—and hires him to find out by whom. What begins as routine protection draws Marlowe into the tense world of a silk merchant, a troubled divorce, and dangerous personal and business entanglements around Wilshire Boulevard and La Cienega.

Old Time Retro Radio presents the original broadcast with a newly produced contextual introduction, a short closing announcement, and gently cleaned/mastered audio for a more consistent listening experience.
