Show Notes
In this episode of Untidy, Matilda and Hannah are joined by Richie Hardcore, former Muay Thai champion, educator, and speaker on healthy masculinity, mental health, and preventing gendered violence. Richie works with young people, schools, and communities across Aotearoa, bringing lived experience and practical tools into spaces where these conversations are needed most.
CONTENT WARNING: Some of this conversation may be upsetting to some listeners. This episode discusses topics including family violence, sexual violence, pornography, and toxic online influences. Please take care and choose a time and a place to listen that’s right for you. In this kōrero, Richie shares his personal story of growing up around family harm, how he found resilience through fighting and music, and what led him to dedicate his life to cultural change. We talk about the very real risks facing boys today, from toxic online influences to the normalisation of porn, and how parents and caregivers can better support their kids. We dive into what healthy masculinity actually looks like, why role models matter so much, and how we can create spaces where young people feel safe to be vulnerable, respectful, and true to themselves. It’s a big, sometimes confronting conversation, but one filled with hope and compassion. Whether you’re raising boys, working with young people, or reflecting on your own journey, this episode will give you insight, strategies, and a lot to think about. This week on Untidy, there are still plenty of laughs, but this one's a rollercoaster, and we've got some big topics to cover. Bean shares the heartbreaking loss of her beloved dog Duchess, who stood beside her through some of life’s hardest seasons, and reflects on the grief and gratitude that come with saying goodbye to a member of the family. Matty has a wholesome family holiday to the Gold Coast, complete with some literal rollercoaster revelations. Then, all of us at Untidy have some big news to share. After five years of living and breathing Untidy, more than 200 episodes, countless laughs, tears, overshares, awards, live events, weird tangents, and one incredible community, it's time to bring Untidy to a close. There's no drama. No scandal. No secret feud. No tea at all (sorry to disappoint). Just Matty and Bean recognising that this beautiful thing has reached its natural conclusion. In this episode, we reflect on what Untidy has meant to us and the whānau that has formed around it. We're not quite finished yet. This isn't the final word. We want that to come from all of you, to be part of the final recordings. This week on Untidy, Hannah and Matty are joined by sisters Rosa Power and Margo Flanagan, the duo behind Two Raw Sisters, known and loved for their cookbooks and recipes, workshops, podcast and their Two Raw Sisters app. They're all about helping people bring 'confidence to their kitchens through time-saving recipes and food that fits their lives.' They chat about food, health, burnout, body image, motherhood, chronic fatigue, and why so many people feel overwhelmed by modern wellness culture. Rosa shares her experience as a high-performance athlete whose pursuit of success led to an eating disorder and RED-S, while Margo opens up about spending years bedridden with chronic fatigue and the path that helped her recover. Together, they explain how those experiences shaped the philosophy behind Two Raw Sisters and their systems that are helping to change lives. The conversation also explores feeding picky children, managing decision fatigue, nourishing yourself while caring for everyone else, and the genius concept of being "intelligently lazy". For anyone who has ever felt exhausted by wellness advice, struggled to prioritise their own nutrition, or wondered how healthy eating can fit into a busy life, this episode offers practical, realistic insights. In this episode of Untidy, Matty reports in live and literally on the ground as she hits the renovation pinch-point, Hannah’s under the weather and leaning heavily on the remedial qualities of Robitussin, insufficient sympathy, and homemade soup. The girls share a listener’s horrifying wine story, and a workaround for avoiding auto-playing your questionable audio choices in the car. Hannah shares a wholesome interaction and faces the dawning of a monosyllabic adolescent. As always, thanks for being here! Send us your weird interactions, accidental flirtations, awkward moments, and peculiar proclivities. We love hearing from you!
