Food Boredom Isn’t the Problem: The Demure Female Eating Pattern If you keep saying you’re “bored of healthy food,” this episode is going to hit a nerve. Because chances are, you’re not actually bored. You’re deeply, cumulatively dissatisfied. In this episode, I unpack what I calls the demure female eating pattern: the lifelong habit of eating small, light, careful, socially acceptable meals that never fully satisfy or satiate. Think boiled eggs, sad salads, yogurt cups, snack bars, smoothies, avocado toast, and “just a little something.” Food that looks healthy on paper, but leaves you hungry, preoccupied, and back in the kitchen an hour later. I explain why so many women mistake this chronic undernourishment for a lack of discipline or a personality flaw, when the real issue is that they’ve been conditioned by diet culture to eat in a way that is performative, unsatisfying, and metabolically weak. In this episode: Why “I’m bored of healthy food” is usually not about boredom at all
The difference between satisfaction and satiety
How women are trained to eat small, careful, low-maintenance meals
Why snacky, light eating keeps you thinking about food all day
The problem with tiny protein portions like one egg or a little chicken on a salad
What the leucine threshold has to do with muscle, metabolism, and fullness
Why healthy eating should feel enjoyable, robust, and complete
How to stop eating like a “good girl” and start eating like a nourished adult
If this episode resonates, the Metabolic Reboot is where I help women learn to break this pattern for good and finally master how to eat in a way that actually works in a midlife female body. Make the food better. 30:03 Protein boredom, satiety, and the feeling of being done 31:15 Use flavor, variety, and actual cooking 32:25 This takes more effort than a shake in the car, but it works 33:18 Make beautiful meals and eat them to fullness 34:07 Better eggs, not pancakes 35:00 The feminist layer: women are taught to stay unsatisfied 36:18 What happens when meals finally hit 37:24 Stop being haunted by cumulative food dissatisfaction 38:31 This is exactly what the Metabolic Reboot helps you change 39:10 Outro and invitation

Apparently, at some point, protein became math. And now we've got women standing in their kitchens at 8:30 PM eating cottage cheese because an app says they're 20 grams short. We've turned one of the most basic human nutritional needs into another thing to track, measure, and obsess over. But here's the thing: protein matters enormously. That's exactly why I want you to stop treating it like a math problem.Your body has an entire appetite system designed to help regulate what you eat.In this video, I'm breaking down the protein leverage hypothesis, why modern meals often leave us hungry despite eating all day, and how building protein-forward meals can help you feel genuinely satisfied without counting a single gram.Because the goal isn't to hit a magical protein number. It's to eat a proper meal, feel full, and get on with your life.In this video you'll learn:• What the protein leverage hypothesis tells us about hunger • Why protein-diluted meals can leave you constantly snacking • Why I prioritize real meals over grazing all day • How to build protein-forward meals without tracking grams • Why satiety is more useful feedback than an app • How an epic, protein-rich breakfast can change your afternoon hunger • Why protein needs for muscle-building and everyday health aren't necessarily the same • A simple one-week experiment to understand your body's signals ⏱ TIMESTAMPS00:00 Protein Became Math 01:36 The Protein Leverage Hypothesis 03:39 Why Modern Meals Leave You Hungry 04:47 Snacking vs. Real Meals 06:38 Satiety Signals, Not Targets 08:14 The Protein-Forward Meal Method 11:27 Epic Breakfast & Body Trust 14:11 Weight Loss Without Counting 15:52 Protein, Muscle & Your Goals 17:32 Flexibility Over Precision 18:41 The One-Week Protein Experiment 20:02 Beyond Protein: Rebuilding Trust 22:42 Final Thoughts & Next Steps =============================Connect with Erin!🌿 Website: https://www.eatsimple.ca📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eat.simple.erin/▶️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@eatsimple=============================Ways I Can Help You✨ Join The Metabolic Reboot interest list: https://www.eatsimple.ca/reboot✨ The Metabolic Mentorship: https://www.metabolicmentorship.com/✨ Explore Eat Simple: https://www.eatsimple.ca=============================Here's what I want you to try this week.Look at your meals and ask yourself one question:Where's the protein? Not how many grams. Not whether you've hit your target. Can you actually see a substantial protein food on your plate?Build your meals around eggs, meat, fish, poultry, or other protein foods that work for you. Add the foods you enjoy. Eat until you're comfortably full. Then pay attention. Are you satisfied for longer? Are the cravings quieter? Is that 3:00 PM snack hunt becoming less interesting? That's useful information.Your metabolism responds to signals, not math.💬 Tell me in the comments: Which meal tends to be missing protein for you—breakfast, lunch, or dinner?#ProteinForWomen #WeightLossAfter45 #MetabolicHealth #ProteinLeverage #Satiety #FoodNoise #MidlifeWeightLoss #Perimenopause #Menopause #SustainableWeightLoss #WomenOver40=============================Hi, I'm Erin Power.I'm a Registered Holistic Nutritionist (RHN) and National Board Certified Health & Wellness Coach (NBC-HWC), with nearly 30 years in the fitness industry.I help women 45+ stop obsessing over calories, macros, and food rules and start eating in a way that supports their metabolism. My approach focuses on real meals, genuine satiety, reducing food noise, and building habits you can actually maintain.Because I don't want you to become better at tracking your food.I want you to become better at feeding yourself.
I didn't decide not to have children.I just didn't have them. And those are two very different things. For years, I've been asked, "Do you have kids?" And when I say no, the next question is almost always, "Why not?"It's a simple question with a very complicated answer. In this episode, I'm sharing one of the most personal stories I've ever told. Why I never became a mother, how my eating disorder affected my reproductive years, the relationships that shaped my life, and what it feels like to reach an age when biology has made the decision for you.My story comes down to three things: lost time, wasted time, and running out of time. There's grief in that story. But there's also freedom, acceptance, and a life I've come to genuinely love. And I want to talk about something else, too: why we make so many assumptions about women who don't have children.Because not every woman without children chose that life. And not every woman who didn't become a mother is secretly miserable about it.Sometimes life just unfolds differently than you imagined. In this video, you'll hear about:• Why I didn't have children—and why it wasn't a deliberate choice• The assumptions women face when they don't become mothers• How my eating disorder affected my reproductive health• The relationships and years that shaped my path• What it means to grieve a life you never lived• Finding freedom, acceptance, and identity beyond motherhood• Why motherhood and non-motherhood aren't competing experiences⏱ TIMESTAMPS00:00 Why I Didn't Have Children01:32 The Awkward Question05:08 Assumptions and Judgment07:37 It Wasn't a Choice09:33 Lost Time: My Eating Disorder10:45 Wasted Time: Relationships13:25 Running Out of Time14:04 Making Peace With It15:58 Motherhood and Midlife17:31 One Life, No Control Group18:11 Final Thoughts=============================Connect with Erin!🌿 Website:https://www.eatsimple.ca📸 Instagram:https://www.instagram.com/eat.simple.erin/▶️ YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@eatsimple=============================Ways I Can Help You✨ The Metabolic Reboot:https://www.eatsimple.ca/reboot✨ Explore Eat Simple:https://www.eatsimple.ca=============================We don't get to live both versions of our lives.Mothers don't know what their lives would have looked like without children. And women like me don't know what motherhood would have given us—or what it might have taken away. There's no control group. There's just the life we got.Mine didn't include children. I didn't decide that. I didn't exactly want that. And I don't spend my days wishing it were different. All three things can be true.💬 I'd love to hear your thoughts. If your weight-loss plan feels too hard to keep doing, that isn’t a sign you need more discipline. It’s a sign the plan might be too hard.Because it doesn’t matter how “perfect” a strategy is if you can only sustain it for a few weeks. For decades, women have been taught that weight loss is supposed to require sacrifice, restriction, tracking, exhausting workouts, and constant willpower. And when we eventually quit?We blame ourselves. In this video, I’m challenging that entire idea and asking a much more useful question:Could you still be doing this five years from now?Because that’s the only version of “working” that really counts. Pasted textIn this video you’ll learn:• Why sustainability matters more than the “perfect” plan • How to recognize when your approach is simply too hard • Why constant willpower eventually fails • Why humans naturally choose the path of least resistance • How diet culture taught us to associate suffering with results • What “easy” weight loss actually means • How real meals, protein, and satiety make consistency easier • The five-year test I use for any weight-loss approach ⏱ TIMESTAMPS00:00 The One Rule 00:54 The Sustainability Test 02:16 The “Too Hard” Checklist 04:28 “But It Works” 05:59 Biology Beats Willpower 07:34 Why Hard Sells Programs 10:24 What “Easy” Actually Means 12:05 The Grief & the Hope 13:11 Choose the Easy Path 13:49 Subscribe & Next Steps =============================Connect with Erin!🌿 Website: https://www.eatsimple.ca📸 Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/eat.simple.erin/▶️ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/@eatsimple=============================Ways I Can Help You✨ The Metabolic Reboot: https://www.eatsimple.ca/reboot✨ Explore Eat Simple: https://www.eatsimple.ca=============================Easy doesn’t mean doing nothing. It means eating the same dinner as your family. In this video, I’m breaking down what actually happens during a fat-loss plateau, why your metabolism adapts as you lose weight, why hunger and food noise can increase, and why cutting harder may deepen the very adaptation you’re trying to escape. Because a plateau isn’t necessarily your body failing. Sometimes it’s your body doing exactly what bodies do: adapting. “I just need someone to hold me accountable.”I hear this from women all the time. But most of what the diet industry calls accountability isn’t really accountability. It’s compliance.Someone gives you the rules. You report back. You hit the numbers. You keep the streak alive. And the fear of disappointing your coach, your app, or yourself keeps you “on track.”Until the support disappears. Then suddenly, so does the behavior. In this video you’ll learn:• Why “hold me accountable” often really means compliance• How shame and external pressure can keep you following rules you don’t understand• Why knowing WHY you’re doing something matters• The difference between controlled and autonomous motivation• What self-determination theory teaches us about lasting behavior change• Why external accountability works more like a scaffold than a foundation• The three pieces of real accountability: autonomy, competence, and relatedness• Why food skills are more useful than rigid food rules• The difference between supportive coaching and policing• How to choose support that makes you more capable, not more dependent• Why accountability ultimately has to become an inside job⏱ TIMESTAMPS00:00 Why Accountability Fails01:06 Compliance, Not Change02:16 Rules Without Reasons03:49 The Science of Motivation07:09 The Scaffold Problem09:29 The Real Accountability Blueprint09:36 Autonomy, Competence & Relatedness11:26 Support Without Policing12:05 Reframing Accountability12:58 The Metabolic Reboot & Wrap-Up=============================Connect with Erin!🌿 Website:https://www.eatsimple.ca📸 Instagram:[https://www.instagram.com/eat.simple.erin/▶️ YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@eatsimple=============================Ways I Can Help You✨ Learn more about The Metabolic Reboot:https://www.eatsimple.ca/reboot✨ Explore Eat Simple:https://www.eatsimple.ca=============================Subscribe for honest conversations about:• Weight loss after 45• Perimenopause & menopause• Metabolic health• Hunger, satiety & food noise• Sustainable fat loss• Diet culture & food rules• Building confidence around food• Rebuilding trust with your body• Creating habits that work in real lifeExternal accountability has an expiration date. The coach won’t always be there. The app eventually gets deleted. The program ends. The group chat goes quiet. So the question isn’t:“Who can make me behave?”It’s:“Who can help me understand my body well enough that I don’t need to be managed anymore?”That’s the kind of support I want you looking for.Not someone who makes you more obedient.Someone who makes you more capable.💬 Tell me in the comments: Have you ever hired a coach or joined a program specifically because you wanted someone to hold you accountable?
