Dads And DaddiesShow Notes
Brian and Judson are joined by drag icon, RuPaul’s Drag Race alum and reigning Mr. Palm Springs Leather, Honey Davenport! Honey talks about their entree into the leather community over the last few years, bridging the drag and leather sides of their persona, why it’s important to address them as Honey, their thoughts on a return to Drag Race, their journey into adult content creation, the childhood origins of their activism and community service, and the need for mentorship in the queer community. They also tell us about the launch of their line of tights designed for the drag community, Honey’s Hose, detail how they fit into the Davenport family tree, and talk about their various relationship statuses as a polyamorous person. Honey then joins Brian and Judson in responding to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a non-binary listener curious for thoughts on how to signal on the apps that Daddy and femme can co-exist early enough in a conversation to ensure expectations are set and met while keeping it sexy.
More from Dads And Daddies
Brian welcomes actor and comedian Jeremy Crittenden to the podcast as this week’s guest co-host. Jeremy talks about his acceptance of his Daddyness, and his appreciation for conversations with Daddies since nobody prepares us for the changes that happen later in life. In honor of National Coming Out Day, the two share their coming out stories. Brian explores whether his low libido of late has anything to do with stress, not the least of which comes from bringing a new puppy into the family. The Hookup of the Week comes from a listener whose hookup was so good, he made the recording from his car seconds after finishing. Brian and Jeremy then welcome to the podcast Canadian comedian, writer and producer, best known as Kip’s BFF Shawn on Heated Rivalry, Brandon Ash-Mohammed! Brandon shares his non-coming out story and talks about the supportive environment in which he grew up, he gives the origin story of his three-year relationship with his boyfriend, talks about how he got into stand-up comedy, and gives a peek into his work as Head Writer on Canada’s Drag Race, his role on Heated Rivalry and more. Brandon also tells Brian and Jeremy what makes him good at expressing love for others, what it’s like to be an introverted stand-up and struggles with the question of whether he should move from Toronto to New York for many reasons, a significant one being the difference in how racism presents itself in Canada versus the US. Brandon then helps Brian and Jeremy respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener separating from his husband and struggling with their continued relationship and logistical entanglements.
Brian welcomes content creator Guy Woof back to Dads and Daddies after almost two years. Guy recounts his recent family trip to Thailand and talks about his next trip, when he will travel to Las Vegas to teach porn creators how to make safe-for-work videos for Instagram and TikTok. The two compare notes on how they share the details of their sex-positive lives with their parents. Guy gives Brian some advice about how to present himself on the apps. The Hookup of the Week finds a listener realizing the existence of his inner Daddy and letting him loose when hooking up with another Daddy. Guy gets competitive about whether he or Brian is the bigger Broadway show queen, and admits his aspiration to play Romeo in & Juliet on Broadway before it closes. He shares his recent dalliances with supposed straight men. He delves deep into what it is like to live as an Israeli in the US, the assumptions that are made about him, and the work he has to do to convince people that he does not support the war, Israel’s oppression of Palestine and all of the killing. After a break, Guy shares his current Daddy Issue, which is his need to examine the role of poppers in his life, his desire for a relationship, and what he does and doesn’t prioritize when meeting potential partners. The episode ends with Guy helping Brian respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener frustrated that everyone he meets on the apps has already slept with people in his friend circle.
Brian is thrilled to discover that his crush, the immensely popular and supremely funny comedian Joe Dombrowski, is a listener and avid clip-watcher of Dads and Daddies. Joe comes to Brooklyn from Seattle and sits down with Brian to share his aspirations to become PTA president; his evolution from Joey, the fraternity brother, to Joe, the schoolteacher and now comedic star; and how he almost tanked any potential of a relationship with his now husband on their first date. Joe joins Brian in listening to the Hookup of the Week, which comes from Bear Week in Provincetown and centers around the discovery of a unique and likely self-appointed brand ambassador. Brian’s conversation with Joe picks back up to talk about the evolution of both his material and his audience, the support he received from Ellen DeGeneres, the major decision to make comedy his full-time career, and his life now as a father to a ten month-old baby. He talks about his distaste for parents on the internet who make it look like having kids is pain-free, he helps Brian respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener struggling to speak with his husband about their sex life, and he challenges Brian to answer the question “Who is your favorite Drag Race queen of all time?”
Brian welcomes Boyslut author Zachary Zane back to the podcast, this time as guest co-host! Zachary recaps his “proper gay summer” and the two compare thoughts about their favorite gay vacation destinations, and the insecurities that come along with visiting each. Brian recreates the steam room hookups of his younger days with his husband, and both Zachary and Brian’s husband help him reframe his thinking around finishing quickly. The Hookup of the Week comes from a visitor to New York whose supposed threesome also includes a mysterious fourth. Brian and Zachary then welcome GayVN and Grabby award-nominated Daddy Patrick who, at 63, is new to being an adult performer and model, and who, two years into his latest career, wrote and directed the new gay western porn series, Drifters, which features, among many others, previous Dads and Daddies guests Joel Someone and Jonah Wheeler. Patrick shares how he came to start a porn career at 61, and how it evolved from making collabs for OnlyFans and JustForFans to writing, directing and performing in a 14-episode series for Ducati Studios. He compares his pre-60 corporate life to his life now in adult entertainment, he talks about what kind of Daddy he aims to be, how he imbues the porn he creates with intimacy, and about his conviction that gay men need to unlearn the instinct to be judgemental and instead to treat each other with kindness. Patrick also helps Brian and Zachary respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener who is curious if aging means we have to give up our sexual pursuits.
Judson says goodbye for now to Dads and Daddies for an as-yet-undetermined amount of time to seek treatment for bipolar depression. Brian welcomes Cats: The Jellicle Ball’s Rum Tum Tugger, Sydney James Harcourt, back to the podcast, this time as guest co-host. Sydney recaps the insanely busy five months since his last appearance on the show, from Tony Awards season through Pride Month to the recording of the Jellicle Ball cast album to Rosie O’Donnell becoming his biggest fan and inviting him onto “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” while she was guest hosting, to the release of his first single, “Deviant.” He shares the origins of his electronic music collective, FēRL, of the song itself and its message about celebrating all forms of sex without shame. He also addresses the question on everybody’s mind–whether or not he will launch an OnlyFans. Brian shares both his own Daddy Issue, and his own Hookup of the Week. The actual Hookup of the Week comes from a listener who meets a DL Side on Sniffies and finds their repeat hookup taking a surprising turn. Brian and Sydney are then joined by comedian Quin Lamar. Quin talks about his transition from Michigan to New York via a three-year detour to Berlin, he shares how his parents raised him to have a love of comedy, his thoughts on truth in stand-up, and how he is able to imbue sex positivity into his shows because of the pride he takes in being a slut. He also delves into his marriage, and how his and his husband’s individual evolutions over their ten years together eventually led to divorce. Quin shares his distaste for concerts, what it means to live life as a serial monogamist slut, and his insights into the sexual challenges his straight friends face. To close, Quin helps Brian and Sydney respond to a Go Ask Your Dad question from a listener who is struggling to love his bigger body.
