Dr. Justine Birchall and Bisa Romic RN - 'Introducing T.C.R. to General Practice'
Low Carb Down UnderSummary
A general practitioner and a nurse from Eastbound Clinic in Melbourne share their journey into therapeutic carbohydrate reduction (TCR) as a means to combat insulin resistance and improve metabolic health. They emphasize the importance of early detection and intervention in patients, particularly those at risk of developing diabetes. The duo highlights their commitment to re-educating themselves and their colleagues on the benefits of low-carb diets, which they believe can significantly impact patient outcomes.
The practitioners discuss their collaborative approach, which includes regular health assessments and the integration of specialized nurses and dieticians into their care model. They have successfully implemented a system where patients with chronic conditions, including diabetes, receive ongoing support and education through structured visits. This model allows for personalized care plans that focus on lifestyle changes rather than solely relying on medication.
Their efforts are bolstered by recent partnerships and resources from organizations like Diabetes Australia and Defeat Diabetes, which provide valuable educational materials and support for healthcare professionals. The practitioners express optimism about the future of metabolic health in general practice, advocating for a shift in how GPs approach dietary advice and chronic disease management.
