902 | Recruiting Your Founding Team: Culture, Roles and Ownership - Social Entrepreneurship Course

YaleCourses

Summary

The discussion centers on the formation of a founding team for a new organization, emphasizing the importance of selecting individuals who are committed for the long term and possess diverse skills. The speaker highlights that not all members involved in the initial brainstorming and design phases will necessarily be part of the founding team. It is crucial to identify those who will dedicate themselves fully to the project as it transitions from concept to reality.

Organizational culture is also a key focus, defined as the shared beliefs, values, and practices that emerge from a group's collective experiences. The founding team plays a significant role in establishing this culture, which should align with the organization's core values. The speaker outlines typical roles within an executive team, including the CEO, COO, and various program directors, while also encouraging flexibility in defining these roles based on the team's unique needs and dynamics.

Additionally, the conversation touches on the importance of diversity in experience and skills within the founding team, as this is a critical factor for attracting funding and support. The speaker advises on the necessity of having open discussions about ownership and equity among team members, especially in for-profit ventures, to ensure clarity and fairness as the organization grows.

Game Theory (ECON 159)Uploaded 20-11-08We first discuss Zermelo's theorem: that games like tic-tac-toe or chess have a solution. That is, either there is a way for player 1 to force a win, or there is a way for player 1 to force a tie, or there is a way for player 2 to force a win. The proof is by induction. Then we formally define and informally discuss both perfect information and strategies in such games. This allows us to find Nash equilibria in sequential games. But we find that some Nash equilibria are inconsistent with backward induction. In particular, we discuss an example that involves a threat that is believed in an equilibrium but does not seem credible.00:00 - Chapter 1.
