PDB Afternoon Bulletin | October 26th, 2026: Trump's Iran Strike Plans Trigger an Urgent Diplomatic Intervention & Netanyahu's Clash With IDF Chief

President Trump considers new military strikes against Iran as Saudi Arabia, Turkey, and Pakistan engage in urgent diplomatic talks with Iranian leaders to avert further conflict. The meetings, which include senior defense and intelligence officials from the three countries, aim to address rising tensions and the potential for renewed military operations by the U.S. and Israel. This diplomatic effort comes amid ongoing missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia from Iran-backed Houthi forces in Yemen, prompting the kingdom to bolster its military cooperation with its regional partners.

In Israel, Prime Minister Netanyahu faces internal dissent from military leaders over a proposed operation against Iran, which could escalate tensions ahead of the upcoming elections. Reports indicate that Netanyahu sought U.S. support for a joint strike, but President Trump declined, urging caution and coordination. The Israeli military's chief expresses concerns that even a limited operation could provoke Iranian retaliation, complicating the political landscape as Netanyahu's government grapples with its approach to Iran amidst electoral pressures.
