S3 E7: The Truth About Female Founder Cliques And Performative Feminism with Amy Kean

No Bullsh*t Talks

Show Notes

Everyone's talking about empowering women. Not everyone means it.

Amy Kean is the CEO of Good Shout, a social psychologist in training, and the founder of the Unlikable Woman Summit - a movement for women who've been told they're too much, too loud, or too direct. She's also one of the most honest voices in the room when it comes to calling out the BS that hides behind women's empowerment branding.

In this episode, Sabrina and Amy get into the conversations most people in this space are too scared to have. The female founder cliques that operate exactly like old boys clubs.

The corporate hijacking of International Women's Day by a management consultancy with zero feminist credentials. Why feminism has become too polished and palatable to actually change anything. And what it really costs women who dare to speak up publicly.

This is not an episode about victims. It's an episode about what happens when you refuse to shut up - and why more women need to do exactly that.

In this episode: Why Amy left a 17-year advertising career and what it taught her about women's voices

The concept of "likeability labour" and why it's silently killing women's careers

What gravitas actually means — and why it's being used as a weapon against women

The real story behind International Women's Day.com (and who's actually profiting from it)

Female founder cliques — how they work, who they exclude, and why they're just old boys clubs with better branding

The Unlikable Woman Summit — why Amy built it and what happened when she put a giant vagina at the entrance

68% of women have stopped speaking online — and why silence is the worst thing that can happen to any movement

Why AI fear-mongering is the newest form of unethical marketing

What social media literacy actually means and why it's now a survival skill

What do your clothes actually say about you?Samantha Harman - founder of The Style Editor, personal stylist, visual brand strategist, author of Just Get Dressed, and the first female editor of the Bucks Free Press in its 160-year history - has spent her career shaping how people are seen. But behind the expert exterior is a woman who once cried in a changing room, hated how she looked, and whose wardrobe was, in her own words, “weaponised against her.”In this honest, fiery conversation, Sabrina sits down with Samantha to talk about what it’s really like to be a visible woman online, the psychology behind why clothing matters more than you think, and the motherhood penalty they’re both navigating in real time.Show Notes and TranscriptVisit the website to get the transcriptions, notes and more insights from the episodes:https://n0bspodcasts.comWhat is the podcast? This podcast is for anyone who wants to learn what it’s really like running a business. Description Lawrie Philpott spent thirty years inside PwC before founding his own leadership consultancy, Philpott Black. In this episode we go through the actual jobs behind that CV: consulting assignments in Kuwait during Ramadan, Liberia, Nigeria, Kenya and Sudan, leading a flood control strategy for Bangkok, and a trip to the high Arctic that dropped to minus 76 with wind chill, all in the name of writing a better report. We get into what actually separates someone who can do great work from someone who can also sell it, why "working in the organisation" and "working on the organisation" are two different jobs that most leadership teams only do one of, what a board is actually for versus what it's become, and the point at which a growing business genuinely needs one. Lawrie also gives his honest answer on the biggest bullshit in consulting: senior people showing up to win the pitch, then disappearing the moment the work starts. If you're building a leadership team, thinking about your first board, or trying to work out why some client relationships last twenty five years and others don't, this one's for you.
