Teachings On Obedience And Holiness, A Slave-Labor Camp Defense, And A Song With J.D. Sumner And The Stamps

World pastor Tony Alamo teaches on obedience as the path to holiness, sings "I, John" with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, reads listener letters from Nova Scotia to Palm Springs, and mounts a lengthy defense of his ministry against decades-old accusations that his clothing business was a slave labor camp.

Program 290 Opens With A Prayer For Obedience World pastor Tony Alamo opens program number 290, part 188 of his series How to Have God's Life Living in You, asking listeners to get paper and pencil ready for program number 290 and reminding them a free copy is available on CD or audio tape. He previews a message, testimonials, Bible reading, and singing, then leads an opening prayer asking the Lord to anoint the broadcast and strengthen the church in these last days, and the congregation answers with a spoken amen. Alamo begins his teaching by separating sins of ignorance from acknowledged sin, insisting no sin enters the kingdom of heaven and that unconfessed sin keeps prayers from being heard. He teaches that the Holy Spirit is given only to those who obey the Lord's commandments, citing Acts chapter five, and recalls how the Apostle John's closeness to Christ let the Lord reveal the Antichrist to him, a corporate body John later tied to the number six sixty-six in his gospel.

A Song Called I John With J.D. Sumner Having taught that obedience opens the way to the Holy Spirit's power, Alamo turns to music, recalling that he recorded several albums with J.D. Sumner and the Stamps, including a song called I, John, built on the Apostle John's description of looking up into the heavens and seeing a mighty number. He tells listeners the song ties directly to his teaching, that revelation like John's comes only to those who stay close to the Lord. Alamo and J.D. Sumner and the Stamps then perform I, John together, filling several minutes of the broadcast before Alamo returns to the microphone. Coming back from the performance, he tells listeners that shortwave audiences have reported other broadcasters now copying the testimonial letters his ministry receives from newspaper readers, soliciting mail from their own listeners in the same way. He insists his own letters are never solicited, that he never begs anyone to write, and that the letters arrive heartfelt from people moved to write after reading his literature or hearing the broadcast.

Testimonials From Nova Scotia To California Alamo turns the broadcast over to testimonials, opening with a letter from Bill and Connie in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia, Canada, who praise singer Jack Holcomb, agree that the Church of Rome is a sect and the mother of harlots of Revelation chapters seventeen and eighteen, and ask for literature on the subject along with the Dry Bones article based on Ezekiel chapter thirty-seven. The letter prompts a detour into shortwave reception, with listeners naming Berlin, Cuba, Panama, Wales, Peru, Mexico, Florida and unnamed oriental stations as places that have picked up the signal, though Alamo admits he gets only static. Further letters follow: two women in New York City, one an elderly black woman, call a twenty-four-hour witnessing line after reading Alamo's article Brace Yourselves in the New York Daily News, asking to become literature distributors, and a man from Lemon Grove, California, requests the Messiah book after reading Dry Bones in the San Diego Union-Tribune and relating to Alamo's promotional-field background.

Defending The Ministry Against Slave Labor Claims A letter from Palm Springs, California, reporting that Judith of Judith's Nutrition refuses to say anything negative about Alamo despite repeated pressure, launches the broadcast's longest passage, a defense against accusations that his former clothing ministry, once sold in ten thousand stores
