Show Notes
Quite unintentionally, (but also quite awesomely) we seem to be on a roll of welcoming SHEROES of the 90's and beyond to the pod lately and we are 100% ok with that. This week we welcome the Grammy-winning singer, songwriter, and producer Paula Cole to discuss her new two volume collection SONIC MEMOIR: Demos 1989 - 1998, reflections on what she discovered and rediscovered digging through her archive, and why post-menopausal women are going to save the world.
More from SHEROES
The Canadian-born artist, musician, and author, Melissa Auf der Maur is best known as the former bassist for Hole and Smashing Pumpkins, has released two books this year that document that era: Even The Good Girls Will Cry - My 90's Rock Memoir, and the companion photo book, My 90's Rock Photographs, plus an album called Bass Womb Room - My '90s 4-Track Demos x Field Recordings. During the Kingston, NY arts and healthcare activism-focused O+ Festival, Melissa sat down with Carmel to read a chapter from her memoir, and discuss the very timely arrival of the books and her book tours against the backdrop of our current political and environmental crisis.
As Allison Russell's headlining tour gets underway in support of her third solo effort, In The Hour of Chaos, we thought it would be a fantastic time to revisit this conversation from earlier this year.
We last caught up with Danielle Ponder in 2022 when her debut album Some of Us Are Brave dropped, and now the just-as-aptly-titled follow up, Everything Has Changed , has arrived and in this new interview, Danielle tells us what has changed, the difficult road to her sophomore album, and why her 40's are her best decade yet.
The virtuosic guitarist Gabriela Quintero of the duo Rodrigo y Gabriela returns to SHEROES this week to discuss the brand new album OurHome which was recorded in Tokyo, and sees them returning to their acoustic roots. Gabriela also opens up about her journey to becoming more empowered and confident in the two-plus decades since they first began performing as Rodrigo y Gabriela.
The always-inspiring, astonishingly prolific, multi-Grammy-winning, Pulitzer-Prize-winner Rhiannon Giddens returns to SHEROES to talk about her brand new album, Hope Is The Thing With Feathers - her seventh album. This is our third time welcoming Rhiannon to the show , and it's absolutely mind-boggling what she has accomplished in the last decade, let alone her 20-year career. It sounds like she is ready to slow down for a while, and who can blame her? But before that happens, she has an upcoming leading role in a film, a new book, and she mentioned two other albums she had recorded (!).
