15: It's A Wonderful Life - David from Thank You Five/Friends Of The Countess
F***bois of Literature Book PodcastShow Notes
I had no idea until about two weeks ago that the classic 1946 Christmas movie, IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE was based on a self-published short story called "The Greatest Gift." And not until last week did I, you know, read it in order to prep for this episode. You can read it here, if you want: https://www.tor.com/2008/12/25/the-greatest-gift/
That being said, most of the beats you know from the movie are there: the bridge, the angel, the regret, the rejoicing. It has a lot going on in a few thousand words. David and I get into it, and America, and PTSD, and small towns, and Marlo Thomas.
You can find David online here: https://linktr.ee/carriagereturn
And you can join me in Portugal next May by clicking here: https://www.trovatrip.com/trip/europe/portugal/portugal-with-emily-edwards-may-2024 Because what I say in the episode is true: I don't want to be the George Bailey of my friend group. And unfortunately, I haven't run into any angels lately, so I guess what Annie Lennox says is true: Sisters are doin' it for themselves. More ways to enjoy FBOL & Emily J. Edwards!

My favorite lawyer is back to discuss the crossover between Jurisprudence and ChickLit– Abby ( @ClapIfYouLikeMe ) was forced through the wringer with Amanda Brown's original text, LEGALLY BLONDE. More ways to enjoy FBOL & Emily J. Edwards!

He manages to bring it back to Shirley Jackson rather eloquently in this episode! More ways to enjoy FBOL & Emily J. Edwards!
If you're familiar with the movie, it means you probably know NOTHING about the book. JAWS by Peter Benchley is an absolute classic, a multi-million dollar earning blockbuster book turned movie that just about MADE Steven Spielberg. But what's up with the novel? Just some of your classic summertime, monster-movie beach read type stuff like mafia-led real estate fraud, class politics, and dead sheep.
