Nancy Scharlau-Murman is a graduate of the Music Production and Engineering Program at Berklee College of Music, in Boston. After school, she moved to San Francisco and landed an assistant engineer position at Different Fur Recording. At the time, the San Francisco music scene was on fire with many bands interested in doing a live recording. Nancy and a fellow Berklee graduate jumped on the opportunity and launched Joey Mobile Recording. Their vision was to offer an affordable alternative for artists and bands to record wherever: at home, rehearsal space, beach front cottage or in an incredible venue like the Great America Music Hall. After moving to Phoenix, Nancy started teaching audio recording at CRAS. Her extensive session background, equipment expertise and enthusiasm to expand her skill set proved to be a great fit. Over time she was asked to teach more classes and has been a veteran instructor there for over 25 years. She formed a women’s group, CRAS Women of Audio (WOA). The group welcomes all CRAS students and focuses on being a support system by hosting grad events, seminars and pertinent subject discussions.
