The second G. Campbell Morgan sermon session walks through Morgan's chapter on John the Baptist from The Great Physician. First the man: Jesus said, "Among them that are born of women there hath not risen a greater than John the Baptist" (Matthew 11:11). Morgan traces John's birth, his prophetic office, and his discontent with sin: the axe at the root, the fan, the fire (Matthew 3:10-12). He looks at John's plain answers to the publicans and soldiers, "Exact no more than that which is appointed you" (Luke 3:13), and at "I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness" (John 1:23).
Then Morgan shows how Jesus dealt with John. Their only recorded conversation is at the baptism: "Suffer it to be so now: for thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness" (Matthew 3:15). John sees what no one else saw, "Behold the Lamb of God," and answers Isaac's question, "where is the lamb?" (Genesis 22:7). He bears record that "this is the Son of God" (John 1:34) and says, "He must increase, but I must decrease" (John 3:30). Last is John's question from prison (Matthew 11:2-6) and Morgan's answer: if he could not understand, he was called upon to trust.
