Oh that Sockhead Slouch hat! Find out just how ridiculous Kelly's is! Our Winter-Weave-Along ends soon and our Out-of-Hibernation-Along is underway. Thank you for your support of the show and our community. Marsha's Projects Camella Hat: by Katie Pomper. Using Meeker Street Olive's Outerwear DK in the colorway Dragon's Breath. Nanny Meier Tea Cozy: Inspired by Lily Pulitzer colors. Using Cascade 220 in hot pink and lime green. Cast on the second side. Fine Sand: by Heidi Kirrmaier. Using West Yorkshire Spinners Illustrious. Finished first sleeve and almost done with second. Alpaca Shawl: I've woven 36". I thought I would keep alternating twill patterns but I was really struggling getting any kind of rhythm throwing the shuttle. Decided to make larger sections tabby and smaller sections (1-1.5") twills. Going much better! Socks: The Artful Ewe Clackamas. Halfway down the foot of the first sock. Baby Surprise Jacket: by Elizabeth Zimmerman. This morning I ordered her digital book that has modifications. 30,000+ projects means it must be a great pattern! I'd like to make a hooded jacket modification. Combo Spin #3: Made a swatch of my green combo spin. Trying to decide on a pattern to knit. Combo Spin #4: I needed something a bit mindless at the beach so I started my fourth combo spin in red. Water's Edge Fiber and Dye: taught by Kathleen Adams Olsen. We dye with indigo. Class held in Kathleen's home in Seabrook, WA. Her website is under construction but you can subscribe to her newsletter to be notified of events. I messaged her via Instagram (watersedgefiberanddye) or Facebook (Kathleen Adams Olsen). Kelly's Projects I finished my Ultra Slouch Sockhead Hat with Punk Rock Unicorn Dirty Neon. Ridiculously slouchy hat with a cozy folded brim that can be a double or even triple layer for my ears. I finished the weaving for the Trailer bedroom curtain project. I bought the cord to go through the bottom casing. Now Robertt needs to install the hooks and attach the cord so I can measure one last time and then sew the two rod casings in the curtain fabric. I've stalled a little with The Drifter by Tamy Gore, Narrow Path Designs. I'm on the decreasing end of the long triangle. Dozens of Little Squares I now have five strips sewn together and it's about 17" wide. I've slowed down on this because I started two new projects. For Out of Hibernation I've been spinning the batts of Corriedale x Merino x Targhee that I washed, dyed, and carded last summer. It was half a fleece from Black Sheep Gathering in 2017 (about two pounds). During the summer I spun up a violet and a blue-green 3-ply yarn. I've now spun up the red-purple and I'm currently spinning a bright blue. The final color is a red orange. Between the two colors I have about 12 ounces left to spin. I started another Classic Knitted Ripple baby blanket using the Red Heart from my mom. There were two grays, black, white and a partial skein of red. There are also two different pinks, but I don't think I'll use them. A book recommendation from Kelly–Never Alone: A Solo Arctic Survival Journey, by Woniya Dawn Thibeaut. The author describes a lot of fiber arts in preparation for her time on the reality TV show. Ravelry Tips and Tricks Do listeners have any tricks to share? I wove a bird's eye twill which falls in the Diaper category. Halfway done with fringe. Hard to find time to work on the blanket. The fringe maker I ordered is a life saver! I still need to wash. Garden Cardigan by AnkeStrick. Using Kelbourne Woolens Scout in the colorway Moss Heather. Complete back to armholes. Picked up stitches for right front. Spindrift Shawl by Helen Stewart. Using by handspun from a braid by Alexandra Art of Yarn Socks: Using Madeline Tosh sock in the colorway Plum Tree. Finished first sock and cast on second. Garden Redesign: I've created a project page. More plants and "finalize' design fence on deck and railing Kelly's Projects Corrie x BL fleece leftovers are finished. I have big chunky puffy yarn! And that fleece from 2016 is now totally removed from my inventory! The red-orange poppy colored Boxy sweater has a finished body. I'm finishing up the ribbing at the bottom, doing a split hem in 1x1 broken rib. Naturally dyed blanket warp is on the loom and ready to thread. I'm doing twill. Planning for Alice Jacket hit a snag. I think I might buy yarn for the main color since I didn't have enough of any one color for the main color. I considered doing body and sleeves in different main colors, but not loving that idea. 2KnitLitChicks Retreat Lake Tahoe, NV September 24-27 Lambtown Dixon, CA October 3-4
It's beginning to feel like fall. Kelly is back in school, our tomatoes are screaming to be picked, and there is lots of fiber prep happening and maybe a little discipline, too. We also discuss planning for possible new projects. I finished making the fringe, wove in the ends and corrected a few mistakes. I used a plastic storage bin filled with hot water and Dawn and then climbed in and stomped on it like grapes, then rinsed and dried. I did this twice to get the fulling I liked. When the blanket was dry I then brushed with a stiff brush. Surprising how much effort it took to full the blanket. Can't do that with merino sweaters! I love the blanket and how the washing and fulling soften it. Dimity, Diaper, Damask Blanket: I wove a blanket using 5 colors of warp and a single color of weft. I wove a bird's eye twill which falls in the Diaper category. I've woven in the ends and started the fringe. The fringe maker I ordered is a life saver! I still need to wash. Garden Cardigan by AnkeStrick. Using Kelbourne Woolens Scout in the colorway Moss Heather. Spindrift Shawl by Helen Stewart. Using by handspun from a braid by Alexandra Art of Yarn Socks: Using Madeline Tosh sock in the colorway Plum Tree. Finished first sock and cast on second. Silver Bags: Sewing bags with pacific cloth to protect silver. Sounds posh. 😉Experimenting with the embroidery feature on Bernina to make a label to identify contents. Patio Furniture Pads: I've sanded, primed and applied three coats of paint. The paint is really hard to use and get a smooth finish. Coverage is terrible. I was trying to get the chairs done before the garden party but gave up…not enough time and I had to pick my battles. I'm not happy with the paint finish so decided to take a break and figure out what is best to do. Weaving Studio: It's a work in progress. Garden Redesign: I've created a project page. More plants and "finalize' design fence on deck and railing Kelly's Projects Finished charity hat #8 for the year using the leftovers from the hat I made in Vermont. Both were brought to school for the free table. Still poking along on the red-orange poppy colored Boxy sweater made with spirit yarn (Shibui Pebble). Some progress at Dr. visits and hospital related to Robert's gallbladder removal. Almost finished with the body Finished the East Friesian singles for weaving. Almost 400 grams of yarn that will become a blanket. Lots of fiber prep is in various stages of the process. Planning Alice Jacket. Naturally dyed blanket planning has begun. Corrie x BL fleece leftovers are being spun on the Salish spinner. 2KnitLitChicks Retreat Lake Tahoe, NV September 24-27

We talk about our projects, including fleece preparation and spinning. Kelly questions Marsha's plans for a sweater from longwool. What do you all think? What should Marsha do with the not quite 700 yards of yarn that didn't come out the way she planned? Marsha's Projects Compass Moon Creations: Finished! About 500 yards of about DK or worsted from 10 ounces of merino in a blue/green. Realized that when pulling from inside and outside, one single ends up with more twist. Harder to spin. Sheridan Flats Spinning: Finished! Purchased 24 oz of 80/15/6 wool/mohair/silk roving in the colorway Kaleidoscope. The owner said to spin at a worsted weight for best results. Mill is Olympic Yarn & Fiber located in Cosmopolis, WA. I was really surprised that I ended up with only about 650 yards of worsted weight yarn. I overplied the first skein but ran it through my wheel and took out a lot of the twist. Looks and feels so much better. Trillium Lake by Kay Hopkins: Using Queensland Collection Coastal Cotton Fine. I'm getting close to finishing. Putting in the purl rounds of hen and then will bind off. The sleeves should go quick as there are just a few rounds of stockinette and then ribbing Mellow Mood Top: by Julia Piro. Merino, silk, and flax palate cleanser skein. Hipstrings fiber, Alpine Spring colorway. About worsted to aran weight. Spun the box of merino silk batts that we carded right before NoCKRs. I didn't quite get three bobbins so I picked and carded more merino and I'm making more merino silk batts. Fleece washing continues.
