Constructive Displeasure: How God’s Anger Expresses His Love.

Kaleo Church

Show Notes

Most of us struggle to have honest conversations with God. We bring Him polite prayers, but rarely our real objections, fears, and frustrations. In Exodus 4:10–17, Moses does the unthinkable—he argues with God and even asks Him to send someone else. And when God’s anger is kindled, we discover something surprising: His anger moves Him toward Moses, not away from him. In this sermon, we explore how even God’s displeasure is an expression of His love, how the cross changes the way we relate to Him, and why we no longer have to be afraid to tell God the truth. If you’ve ever struggled with doubt, inadequacy, or reluctance to obey, this message will remind you that the help you need is found in the presence of the God who says, 'Let’s talk.'

What does it really mean to fear the Lord? Sometimes the Bible tells us not to be afraid and then at other times it calls us to fear the Lord, how do these two things go together? In this message from Exodus 20, discover how the fear of punishment can drive us away from God, while the overwhelming experience of his grace and forgiveness produces something even deeper that draws us near. The first fear can improve our behavior but only the second fear can transform our hearts.

Our words have the power to do far more than hurt feelings—they can take something from another person that is more valuable than money: their good name. Exodus 20:16 calls us not to bear false witness, and Scripture shows us that this command reaches into one of our most common sins: gossip. We may tell things that are technically true and still use our words to damage someone's reputation, stir up division, and rob them of the opportunity to tell their side of the story. But the gospel gives us something far better than simply learning to keep our mouths shut. Jesus, the Word made flesh, came not to expose and condemn his people but to reconcile us to God, cover our sin, intercede for us, and give us a secure identity that no one can steal. Come hear how the ninth commandment exposes our hearts—and how the words of Jesus can transform the way we speak about one another.
