The School of Life

A Dark Way to Forecast what might happen in your relationship

The School of Life

Summary

Childhood experiences significantly shape adult relationships, often leading individuals to unconsciously reenact past dynamics. Many people, when entering new relationships, share stories of childhood victimization, which can elicit sympathy and compassion from their partners. However, as relationships progress, these individuals may begin to replicate the same patterns they experienced as children, but in reverse roles.

Partners may shift from being victims in their childhood to becoming perpetrators in their adult relationships, often without realizing it. This can manifest in various ways, such as emotional withdrawal, mockery, or a lack of support, leaving their partners confused and hurt. The underlying psychological mechanism suggests that these individuals feel safer adopting a dominant role in relationships, as it shields them from the pain they once endured.

To break this cycle, awareness and open communication are essential. Couples are encouraged to recognize these patterns and actively seek a healthier dynamic, one that fosters nurturing and support rather than victimization and perpetration. Ultimately, the goal is to cultivate relationships where both partners can care for and heal one another, moving beyond the limitations imposed by their childhood experiences.

The idea of manliness has grown indelibly associated with the idea of being cool. We’d be wiser to shift the masculine ideal towards a new idea: warmth. Uploaded 01-05-17Enjoying our Youtube videos? The cool man doesn’t try too hard, you don’t see them floundering about in a panic – but they succeed anyway. They are physically confident, they can scale a mountain or saunter down a deserted street in the middle of the night; if they have to kill someone they will do it neatly with minimal fuss; they don’t worry, they are self-contained and sure of themselves; their trousers are always a perfect fit; they express themselves briefly – but their words are always to the point; they’re not meek in the face of authority; but they don’t crave power themselves: they are independent...”You can read more on this and other subjects here: https://goo.gl/lwEWL7MORE SCHOOL OF LIFEWatch more films on SELF in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLselfSOCIAL MEDIAFeel free to follow us at the links below:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ X: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ CREDITSProduced in collaboration with:Peter Caireshttp://www.twitter.com/peterlikesthishttp://www.petercaires.com #TheSchoolOfLife Learn more about your ad choices. How to win friends and influence people is the title of possibly the most famous book of the twentieth century. It is also one of the books most routinely ridiculed by people who think they are clever. But are they right? Or should you pay keen attention to its teachings?

The news is often determined to tell us that we live in uniquely critical times, beset by political disasters and afflicted by terrible crises and that the demise of human civilisation is surely imminent. We are encouraged to view the world - and our own lives - in bleak, apocalyptic terms. Oddly, as the great 18th century historian Edward Gibbon shows us, history can be powerfully consoling, not because it tells us that our times are great, but because it shows us how normal large societal troubles really are. Oddly, history can be powerfully consoling, not because it tells us that our times are great, but because it shows us how normal large societal troubles really are. The English 18th century historian Edward Gibbon is particularly helpful with this task of bringing us to a less frightened perspective. His massive, elegantly written work covers 1500 years, from the pinnacle of Roman power around the year 180 AD, through the collapse of the Western Empire to the final fall of its last outpost, the city of Constantinople, in 1453. Gibbon started work on the series of volumes around 1770 and completed the final volume on a summer’s evening in 1787 while he was on holiday in Switzerland…”MORE SCHOOL OF LIFEWatch more films on LITERATURE in our playlist: http://bit.ly/TSOLliteratureSOCIAL MEDIAFeel free to follow us at the links below:Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/theschooloflifelondon/ X: https://twitter.com/TheSchoolOfLife Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/theschooloflifelondon/ LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/company/the-school-of-life-for-business/CREDITSProduced in collaboration with:Tracy Wedderburntj-tracyfoster.squarespace.comTitle animation produced in collaboration withVale Productionshttps://www.valeproductions.co.uk/ Learn more about your ad choices. It sounds like a hugely arrogant and self-serving suggestion to imply that cleverness might lead you to loneliness. But if you define cleverness in a selective (and modest) way, there may truly be an aspect whereby it can lead to a certain isolation. Uploaded 05-12-17Enjoying our YouTube videos?
