TWENTY10 Weekly

Show Notes

MORE THAN A GAME SHOT. MORE THAN A BUSINESSWOMAN. A PASSION FOR BRINGING PEOPLE TOGETHER. Welcome back to the TWENTY10 Weekly as we head into the afternoon with Rachel Gisby, better known as The Shooting Badger. In Part Two, we discover the woman behind the name, her journey into shooting, her remarkable achievements in catering and why she's so passionate about encouraging more women to experience everything fieldsports have to offer. DRIVE THREE — RACHEL'S STORY Where did it all begin? Rachel takes us back to how she first discovered shooting, the people who introduced her to the sport and how that passion has become such an important part of her life. We also discover the story behind Martha Hollis Event Catering, the successful Hampshire business Rachel runs alongside her husband Matt. From weddings and private events to wonderful shoot-day hospitality, we hear about building the business, their achievements and Rachel's passion for great food, particularly the importance of field-to-fork. But there's another subject close to Rachel's heart. WOMEN IN FIELDSports — OPENING DOORS AND CREATING OPPORTUNITIES We discuss Rachel's passion for encouraging women into shooting, building confidence, breaking down barriers and creating welcoming opportunities for the next generation. Because nobody should feel that shooting is a world they cannot be part of. DRIVE FOUR — RACHEL'S PERFECT TWENTY10 DAY Twenty Guns. Ten pegs. Six shots and change. The whole country is hers to choose from! Where is Rachel taking the TWENTY10'ers for her dream day, and what makes it so special? And finally, Rachel makes her own entry into the TWENTY10 Game Book, leaving us with something to remember long after the guns are put away. Before we head out for another TWENTY10 Weekly, there's something incredibly important we need to talk about. DEFRA'S CALL FOR EVIDENCE — OUR COUNTRYSIDE NEEDS YOUR VOICE! DEFRA is gathering evidence about gamebird management, rearing, release and shooting in England. This is our opportunity to demonstrate the dedication, conservation work and positive contributions that take place throughout the year. From gamekeepers and habitat management to beaters, pickers-up, farmers, rural businesses and the friendships formed in the field, there's so much more to shooting than the birds in the bag. Please don't leave it for somebody else. Whether you're a Gun, gamekeeper, beater, picker-up or shoot host, take a few minutes to share your experiences and evidence. SEND YOUR EVIDENCE BEFORE 1 NOVEMBER 2026 To: [email protected] CC BASC: [email protected] CC Countryside Alliance: [email protected] Subject: Call for Evidence – Gamebird Release and Shooting Explain your involvement, share examples of conservation, habitat management, rural employment and community benefits, and include facts or figures wherever possible. In Part Two — the afternoon of Sam Turner’s TWENTY10 Weekly — we discover how Sam’s journey into game shooting began at just 14 years old, when a weekend job on a local farm led him into beating, shooting and ultimately a lifelong connection with the countryside. Sam shares how those early experiences shaped his love of shooting and the people around it, and how that journey eventually led him to work with South West Sporting Simulated Game. We also hear how Sam has helped bring simulated game shooting into weddings, giving couples and their wedding parties the chance to shoot clays together before the ceremony and create a truly memorable start to their day. But one theme keeps coming through this conversation: community. Sam talks about the people shooting has introduced him to, the knowledge shared with him, the friendships that have grown from it and why, for him, shooting has become about far more than simply pulling the trigger. Finally, Sam makes his entry into the TWENTY10 Game Book: “Welcome anyone into shooting the way you would like to be welcomed.” A wonderfully simple message — and the perfect title for this episode. DEFRA CALL FOR EVIDENCE — YOUR VOICE MATTERS Defra is currently asking for evidence about gamebird rearing, release and shooting in England. This is our opportunity to explain, in our own words, what shooting really contributes to the countryside and the communities within it. Think about your own experience. How many people does your shoot bring together? Does it support a local pub, hotel, game dealer, farm, dog trainer, vet or other rural business? Do you beat, pick up, load, keep, farm, shoot or help on work parties? Does game from your day enter the food chain? What habitat is managed or created? Has shooting given you friendships, work, exercise, purpose or simply a stronger connection with the countryside? Don’t just tell Defra that shooting matters. Show them what it actually does. Use real examples, figures, photographs or records where you can, and only talk about the things you genuinely know and have experienced. You do not have to complete every question in the full Defra survey. You can send your evidence directly by email. Email Defra: [email protected] Copy BASC: [email protected] Use “Call for Evidence” in the subject line. For detailed shoot-management guidance, the Countryside Alliance/GWCT also provides support through: [email protected] Subject: DEFRA Call for Evidence Help Deadline: 1 November 2026. Ten minutes.
