There continues to be debate about the use hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in peri-menopause and menopause. In this episode of our Wellness for the Rest of Us podcast we speak with an expert and an advocate for HRT, Dr Daved Rosensweet. We discuss the topic of HRT for women in perimenopause and beyond, including covering the chequered path of HRT. We also speak about "andropause," a lesser talked about, but equally important topic for males, who also experience decreases in hormones, particularly testosterone, which affects their healthy aging. Finally, we discuss the fine line between doing things "naturally" and using pharmaceutical and modern medical tools available to us for our overall health. Dr. Rosensweet is a world leader in female hormone therapy and continues to move the industry forward with his patented customised bio-identical hormone treatment approach. He is a published author of the book Happy Healthy Hormones: How to Thrive in Menopause as well as national lecturer and the founder of The Menopause Method and iWonderDoctor. There is a lot of information available about dealing with menopause - some of it confusing and some of it contentious. In this episode, we invited Menopause expert, Dr Wendy Sweet, back onto our show to talk more specifically about exercise and menopause - what happens to our bodies when we exercise during menopause and what type of exercise should we be aiming to sustain? Dr Wendy Sweet is the founder of "My Menopause Transformation," where she works with women globally to support them through the menopause transition. Wendy is a former registered nurse and was one of the early drivers of personalised training within the fitness industry. She went on to do her Masters in Lifestyle Behaviour and a Ph.D. in nutrition and healthy aging. As part of her Menopause Transformation programme, Wendy has developed a range of personalised programmes for women going through perimenopause and menopause – acknowledging that every woman is different and will approach these years with different health states and different levels of knowledge about what their bodies are going through and the changes they can make to make life easier. https://www.mymenopausetransformation.com/ @MyMenopauseTransformation @my_menopause_transformation Zestt Wellness: https://zesttwellness.com
In this episode of Wellness for the Rest of Us we speak with DK Ciccone, a certified pilates instructor for chronic pain and rehabilitation. Since CK was 13 years old, she has battled with her own chronic pain with no root cause. Just when she felt she would never find joy in movement, she discovered pilates. Pilates helped her manage her own pain and find a sense of freedom in her body that she hadn't felt in years. Her mission became finding ways to help others find the same joy and freedom trough improving strength and mobility. For CK, and like many others, chronic pain will always be part of her story, but how she manages it and lives with it now, can be an inspiration to others.
