Asking Autistics

Navigating Life as an Autistic Woman

Asking Autistics

Show Notes

In this week's episode, we pull back the curtain on what it’s really like to be an autistic woman. We talk about why so many of us are missed or misdiagnosed (the “lost girls”), and how bullying, media stereotypes, and sexism shape our lives. We get personal about the exhaustion of masking, the need for social safe words, and why self-care is survival. We also push back against the fetishization of autistic traits and a system that often fails us. This is a raw conversation about finding our voices, our community, and a path to acceptance on our own terms. ******************* Follow Asking Autistics, Riki and Lindsey: Asking Autistics: FB - https://www.facebook.com/askingautisticspodcast IG - https://www.instagram.com/askingautisticspodcast Riki: FB - https://www.facebook.com/reberrabonbon IG - https://www.instagram.com/reberrabon_bon/

Lillian Carrier returns for our Season 2 finale to talk about autism representation and accommodations both on set and on screen. She dives into what it was like as an autistic actor playing an autistic character with different struggles than her own personal experience, and how beneficial it was to have an Autism Sensitivity Coordinator on set and an autistic producer really made a difference on set. Horsegirls, a film by Sumerian Pictures, is available now in select theaters. Call your local theaters to ask if they can show Horsegirls near you! *******************

Originally recorded in April of 2025, this week on Asking Autistics, Lindsey and Riki discuss the misinformation and conspiracy theories surrounding autism and vaccines, and how dangerous it is to continue to push these ideas. Advocating for the autism community is so important, especially to help protect members of our community who are more vulnerable.
