More Than Just Luck

A survivor who was placed at Vista Maria in Dearborn Heights, Michigan, as a child is breaking her silence.

More Than Just Luck

Show Notes

She alleges that a male employee approached her in a stairwell, grabbed her by the hair, slammed her face into a wall, and left her lying motionless on the floor. She says he then ordered her to lick his boots and sexually assaulted her repeatedly, threatening to beat her again if she refused to obey.

She remembers one chilling detail: a distinctive wolf ring with four visible teeth, which she says caused devastating injuries during the assaults.

Her account is horrifying—but she is not alone. Multiple former residents have come forward with allegations of abuse, mistreatment, and failures by the people and agencies responsible for protecting them. Their stories are now attracting both local and national attention.

These girls were once dismissed, doubted, and treated as though their voices did not matter. Today, they are survivors speaking publicly, demanding answers, accountability, and justice—from their alleged attackers, Vista Maria, and every agency that failed in its duty to protect vulnerable children.

The silence is over. The survivors are speaking—and those responsible can no longer hide.

Michigan law generally gives survivors of childhood sexual abuse until age 28, or three years after discovering the connection between the abuse and their injuries, whichever is later; older claims can face additional restrictions. Survivors often need far longer before they are ready to speak.

More than 30 years ago, this woman was sent away to Vista Maria to be rehabilitated and learn to become a model citizen. What she actually experienced was drugging, abuse, and vicious beatings, usually at the hands of the facility's nuns, women sworn to uphold God's love and teachings, instead traumatizing children. This woman was lucky to make it out, because so many did not.🕊 Trauma should have no expiration date.✍ Sign the petition and help us demand change: https://c.org/xc6Rkk96rG#MoreThanJustLuck #GregWier #TraumaSurvivor #MentalHealthAwareness #TrueStory#TroubledTeenIndustry #HealingJourney #MentalHealth #TrueCrime #fyp #janedoe #Cornell #InstitutionalAbuse

In this video, Tiffani, Tiffany, and Holly break their silence about the harrowing realities of their time at the state licensed facility. Rather than a place of help and rehabilitation, this institution left behind nothing but profound betrayal and lifelong trauma. We uncover the disturbing events that took place behind closed doors. Holly shares the horrific abuse she endured when she became pregnant by a staff member, and the subsequent cover-up that left her hidden away at her grandmother’s house. Tiffany opens up about her relentless daily struggle to survive, fighting back every single day against the heavy, unwarranted medications the facility attempted to force upon her. Nothing good came from the state licensed facility. This is a stark look at institutional failure and the deep scars left on the youth who were supposed to be protected.
