Two episodes in one month?!? Hold onto your monocles, the surprises are only beginning as we explore the best and worst of cinema in 2024. Will Skeet praise a film that rhymes with "curiosa"? Will we talk for two hours yet again? Who's to say?
More from Ludicrously Specific
Since our last recording session, we lost one of Aotearoa's greatest actors and human beings, Sir Sam Neill. Here's our tribute, alongside a What We Watched which consists of taking each other's recommendations for twisty noirs and mind-bending martial arts, sick-bed viewings of Disney films, early 80s punk rock, and genre-bending Indonesian supernatural prison dance film.
For this episode, we've decided to each program our own overnight movie marathon, based on six categories. From modern day cartoon classics and international insanity to bone-breaking martial arts and rubber monster suits, expect a journey into everyone's idea of what 12 hours of big-screen pleasure (and/or pain) would be!
Will the next-to-last Monday of the month become "Ludicrously Specific" day? I mean ... don't count on it? But nonetheless, we are back with unusual alacrity, revisiting our lengthy siesta and shining a light on some of our favorite viewings during that time, from Stromboli to Scandinavia, from Toronto to Tokyo. Enjoy!
It's enough time to make a baby. It's a movie Julianne Moore doesn't put on her CV. And it's how much time since our last episode happened. So: we're back. And in a desperately doomed attempt to make it snappy, we've asked three questions: what's the best new movie you've seen? What's the best old movie you've seen? And what's the movie you're most desperate to talk about? From Charles Laughton to Godfrey Ho to Fabio Testi, from the sublime to the ridiculous, discover where our cinematic obsessions have taken us over the last nine months. And we promise: it won't be nine months until the next one.
... is a film we're not discussing today. More of a comment about Doug, Steve, and Darren, who are discussing a film called The Mob. And also a film called The Mob. You'll see.
