Cartier 2026 Deep Dive: Roadster Revival, Crash Squelette & Off-Catalogue Secrets (Watches & Wonders)
OT: The PodcastShow Notes
Recorded live and fresh from Geneva, we're taking a look at Cartier's new releases for 2026. After a decade in the archives, Cartier has officially resurrected the Roadster, and we have thoughts. In this episode, we're breaking down the entire Cartier 2026 lineup - from the Y2K nostalgia of the new Roadster Collection to the "liquid gold" engineering of the Santos-Dumont mesh bracelet. Is the new, streamlined Roadster profile a win for modern wearability, or do we miss the "chunkiness" of the 2002 original? We're also diving into the 10th Anniversary of Cartier Privé, exploring the mind-bending Crash Squelette, and discussing why the Tortue moving into the core collection is the sleeper hit of the year. Plus, we tackle the "quiet luxury" trend of Cartier's off-catalogue "Ghost Dial" releases and the brand's aggressive move toward precious metals. Grab a coffee - or a glass of champagne - it's time for the Cartier Deep Dive. Sylvain Berneron has gone from a side project to one of the hottest watch brands in the world. In this episode, he talks about allocating some of the most sought-after watches around and resisting outside investment while the brand grows. When we first spoke to Sylvain in 2023, Berneron was a side hustle, and he had not formally launched a watch. Recent sales results have put the brand firmly in the spotlight. W e talk about the realities of growing that fast, the challenge of deciding who gets the hottest pieces, and a few insights into the Fiasco, the third Berneron collection. Before the interview, Felix and Andy discuss the new Rolex Padellone, Andy's Moser Off-Grid and whether Panerai is becoming cool again. Today's guest, Matt Oosthuizen, is one of the co-founders of Apiar, a UK-based watch brand that's the result of a passion not just for watches, but for experimenting with new technologies. Apiar, which debuted in 2023, is literally built different. Rather than following the traditional path, Apiar leans into additive manufacturing. With cases and dials printed using 3D technology, Apiar makes designs that couldn't be achieved through traditional methods, and as Oosthuizen notes, it's a constantly evolving process as Apiar grows and the technology itself develops. Beyond the innovation, Apier strives to use UK-based suppliers, resulting in watches quite unlike anything else out there. Before chatting to Oosthuizen, Andy and Felix chat about IWC's anniversary Ingenieur and Chopard's Happy Diamonds. Earlier this year, news dropped that Australia was getting its very own local version of Hodinkee, proving (among other things) the strength of the local watch scene. A few months on, the first issue of the Hodinkee Australia magazine has dropped, and it felt like the perfect time to chat to founding editor (and professional yapper), Jamie Weiss, about his journey in the watch world and how Hodinkee Australia is different to the OG masthead, along with plenty of inside baseball references. Supported by Raymond Weil: This week's episode is proudly supported by Raymond Weil. Andy checks out the Millesime Small Seconds in this episode; check it out for yourself.
