In this episode Kerry and Lani Hilton talk about the events of Good Friday and the importance of commemorating them. They speak of the horror of what happened and how hard it is to think about that, but how important it is. They also talk about the joy of what happened, that Christ was willing to die for us, that God was willing to send Him to die, and how we are blessed by that. They discuss the amazing blessing of resurrection. We are grateful for our executive producers, P. Franzen, J. Parke, D. Watson, B. Van Blerkom, the Dawsons, M. Cannon, M. Rosema, B. Fisher, J. This week on Patreon Kerry goes through some of the most powerful images Jeremiah uses, and why it would be so powerful for Judah and how it can reach and teach you. In this episode Kerry discusses the specific mission the Lord gave Jeremiah. He talks about how this teaches us what the Lord wants to have happen to us based on that call. He also talks about how the Lord warned Jeremiah that his ministry would be hard. Then Kerry and Dr. George Pierce discuss Jeremiah's call further, They talk about how the Lord uses word play to illustrate that the punishment of Judah is coming quickly. After that Kerry discusses some of the most powerful images Jeremiah uses as he warns Judah of what they are doing wrong by using Judah's experience with drought to help them feel alarmed. These images carry amazing messages for us as well. Then Then George leads us through the message the Lord has for all of us as he guides Judah through what he wants of them and us: change our ways, keep the law with pure intent, keep covenant, and let God direct and mold us. They also look at how the Lord will sometimes have to break us to get us to go the right way, which is what Kerry had said Jeremiah's call was about in the first place. This week on Patreon Kerry will help you see more clearly what Isaiah 52 is about and will offer some Hebrew insights into that chapter and 53, along with other insights. In this episode Kerry discusses the pivotal role that Isaiah 52 plays in the Book of Mormon and our understanding of Christ's atoning sacrifice. He also briefly discusses how to understand Isaiah 52 in light of Isaiah 47. Then he and Dr. Daniel Belnap discuss how Isaiah 52 draws on both Exodus and Babylon imagery as well as traveling in the wilderness imagery. They also discuss how it prepares us for Christ's second coming and how it can see us through times of uncertainty and how to deal with things we can't control because of Christ's redemption. They talk about the necessity of staying with the camp of Zion to have peace and redemption. Then Kerry and Dr. Paul Hoskisson talk about the transition from chapters 52 and 53 and how the transition verses that speak of a triumphal and suffering servant work well in both verses. Dr. Hoskisson walks us through how the "marred" servant can mean the anointed servant or the blemished servant. They explore how Christ is both a suffering servant and a triumphal king. Then Kerry and Rabbi Grover examine together Isaiah 53 and how the suffering servant is both Christ and Israel. They look at the idea of a messiah and redeemer in general and and what it means for Jews and what it means to be an anointed one and all the people in the Bible that were anointed ones. They delve into what it means for Israel to be a suffering servant and what it means for a redeeming messiah to be a suffering servant. They look at the original context and how both Jews and Latter-day Saints fulfill the imagery in the passage. They explore the shared suffering of those two groups and how both groups have a task to bring the Lord and His redemption to the world. Rabbi Grover shares his experiences about learning of LDS suffering and the affect it had on him. Then Dr. John Howell and Kerry look at Isaiah 54 and how it teaches us of God's hesed for us. They see the way it follows and interacts with Isaiah 53. They also look at how the Book of Mormon helps us understand it, especially the time markers in the text. They examine how God takes away shame and makes us new and ready to move forward in a relationship with God, the most powerful creator. They look at how we forsake God but He accepts us back, and the incredible imagery of His unmovableness in waiting for us. We are grateful for our executive producers, P. Franzen, J. Parke, D.
