Mentioned In Dispatches S15 E8 – How is the Wargaming Business Like the Music Business?
"Mentioned In Dispatches" with the Armchair DragoonsShow Notes
7 November 2025 ~ OK, so we’re getting wacky5 this week as we bring in a pair of game designers/professional musicians on board to talk about the parallels between the wargaming business (and hobby gaming as a whole) and the music business – creating your own music, finding a publisher, going on tour, market segmentation, storytelling, and more Let’s welcome aboard Wes Crawford of Wharf Rat Games and Dan Bullock, both designers who have self-published a variety of games as well as selling designs to other publishers. You get back-stories from both designers of pitching games to publishers, developing their games with player feedback, and the inspirations behind some of their upcoming designs. And of course, we find as many connections to their experiences in the music business as we can along the way.

23 October 2026 ~ Mike & Brant are joined by Aaron & Rocky to collectively tell you how awesome the Fall Assembly is and why you should join us next year. What did we play? Did we survive the tornado warning? How’d the raffle go? We were making new friends, sinking new ships, zapping new enemies, and trying new restaurants in the same weekend that we dusted off 40- and 50-year-old games and welcomed 14-year-old gamers. See you next year?
16 October 2026 ~ Bill & Mike both attended the September weekend of American Revolutionary War gaming in Camden, SC. This weekend was sponsored by GMT Games and built primarily around Mark Miklos’ Battles of the American Revolution series (although other games were played, too). Battlefield tours, cannon fire, wargaming tournaments, Justegarde, and more! Kick back and enjoy the shortest episode of our podcast in 17 seasons. Key links!
