*** Content Warning: Crimes against children, animal cruelty, suicide ***
In September 1978, 11-month-old Chad Shelton is admitted to a Nebraska hospital with suspected food poisoning. Doctors are baffled when his symptoms take a terrifying turn, and two days later, he dies. Within hours, in another part of the city, a healthy 24-year-old man collapses with the very same symptoms.
As the death count rises, health officials scramble to contain the outbreak, and the city of Omaha braces for an epidemic. Then a nurse makes a chance discovery that turns a medical mystery into something far more sinister.
