Ep. 41: When newborn babies lose too much weight

The boobingit podcast

Show Notes

In this episode we talk about what to do when newborn babies lose too much weight. Our special guests are Aimee Cestrone, mama of three and founder of the award-winning breast pump brand Pippeta, and Maria Myres, the lactation consultant from Pippeta.

Together we talk about the important topic of newborn babies and weight loss. Aimee speaks with us from her perspective as a new mama as she recently gave birth to her third child, and Maria provides us with important information and advice related to proper breastfeeding support when infant weight loss may be an issue.

During our conversation Aimee tells us about the birth of her third baby Enya, and how she faced hospital re-admission due to infant weight loss. Maria explains the initial steps to take when faced with a breastfed baby who is losing too much weight. We also look at how mothers and their partners can properly advocate for good breastfeeding support when faced with early issues in their feeding journey.

Our sponsors of this episode are Pippeta, an award-winning breastfeeding brand offering a selection of breast pumps and weaning products.

The Pippeta wearable breast pump won Best Buy Breast Pump 2022 and 2023. It’s a revolutionary breast pump that is praised for its affordability and ability to give pumping mamas the flexibility to express milk on the move.

Most recently Pippeta launched their brand new product called Nips Cups. The Pipetta silver nip cups help care for sore nipples whilst breastfeeding - a very common issue experienced by new mamas when they are learning to breastfeed their little one. The nip cups are 100% silver and have all the natural healing, antiseptic, and antibacterial properties of silver. They can prevent the appearance of sore cracked nipples and aid healing.

You can find out more about Pippeta, and shop their range of products online at pippeta.com. You can use the discount code 'BOOBINGIT10' to get 10% off at the checkout.

In a special episode of the Boobingit Podcast, we sit down with Ashley James—TV presenter, broadcaster, DJ, and mum-of-two—to talk about the judgment parents face when it comes to feeding choices and why it’s time for change. Ashley first rose to fame on Made in Chelsea and has since built a successful career in broadcasting, regularly appearing on shows like This Morning and Good Morning Britain. As a passionate advocate for body confidence, mental health, and parenting rights, she has used her platform to speak openly about the realities of motherhood—including the highs and lows of breastfeeding. In this episode, we dive into the findings of a new report from MAM, which surveyed 1,000 British parents. The report found that 63% of parents face intense criticism in early parenthood – 17% for their baby’s public behaviour, 16% for feeding choices, and a growing 15% for using a dummy. Ashley shares her own experience with mum-shaming and online backlash, and we discuss why feeding choices—especially breastfeeding—continue to be such a divisive topic.
